Problem with USB Keyboard and Mouse: RESOLVED! IDE Drivers!
I'm running my main rig with a combination Logitech MX700 mouse and wireless keyboard. I started having problems with windows not booting completely. It would either hang on the Windows XP screen, and the little bar would stop moving, or the bar would keep moving, but the Hard Drive would show no activity. After trial and error, I finally traced the problem to the mouse and keyboard's wireless reciever. When I unplug it, Windows boots perfectly. But if it's plugged in when I turn the computer on, it hangs. What could be causing this?

Can't imagine why, unless the keyboard has a stuck key maybe.
Also one misbehaved UBS device can interfere with others. I've often seen a flaky card reader cause that. Try plugging the receiver into a completely different pair of USB jacks (each pair is on a different USB bus which isolates them). Also try unplugging ALL your USB devices except the receiver.
Hope this helps...

Yah, I've been using my MXDUO for almost 4 years now with no problems what so ever.. I have even added my MX1000 to the mix with no issues other than not being able to program the special buttons on the keyboard lol..

Has to be a driver issue if it hangs during the XP boot screen. Will it boot into Safe Mode with the receivier connected? If so that's confirming it's either a driver issue or a background app Logitech installed.
If you installed drivers for this keyboard/mouse combo, uninstall it for now (you don't need it for the keyboard to work). You might try uninstalling your USB ports and then letting windows re-detect them.

Could the problem be with a conflict between some mouse/keyboard and IDE drivers? The reason I ask is because I remembered a similar issue I had when I first got the board. I would install nVIDIA's IDE drivers, and the comp would stop booting. I just reverted back to the standard IDE drivers, and it boots fine, even with the reciever plugged in. I still have yet to try uninstalling the Logitech background apps, but this seems to have solved my problem. As for Safe Mode, it got to the point where it wouldn't even try to boot, whether normal mode or safe mode, even with the reciever unplugged. So basically, here's where I stand now.
1st Few Days: Computer wouldn't boot into regular mode with reciever plugged in, but would boot into safe mode with reciever plugged in, and normal if reciever wasn't plugged in.
This morning: Computer wouldn't boot into either normal or safe mode with reciever plugged in or unplugged. Through sheer luck, it randomly booted fine on one try. Uninstalled nVIDIA IDE drivers, and computer boots fine with reciever plugged in or unplugged, in either safe or normal mode.
Still can't figure this out. If I have Windows standard IDE drivers installed, won't I lose performance compared to the nVIDIA drivers?

Thanks for reporting back. Someone in the future might find that useful.
I hate it when people kill threads on other forums when they solve a problem. You never know when someone might come across your thread in a Google search and save his day.
