dell has finally disappointed me

Post by b-man1 »

my g/f got her pc today from dell...a nicely loaded 4600 dimension (p4 2.6, radeon 9800, 512mb ram, 80gb drive, etc). lift it out of the box and hear "rattle rattle". not good.

we pop off the side and i find:

1. the hard drive cage LOOSE and flopping around. they didn't screw it down (no screw found inside) :mad
2. the video card (9800 np) not screwed down either...and wobbling LOOSE. :mad
3. the power/reset button and LED's dangling (not secured to the front of the case..it's one plastic piece).
4. the above power/reset wire bundle not even plugged into the motherboard.

i hook it all back up...and no big shocker...won't POST or anything. i am pretty sure the hard drive and cage dragged across the mobo and video card enough to trash it.

it will be an interesting cust serv call to them tomorrow.

That's a rarity. I've helped a lot of clients order Dells and never seen anything like that. Hopefully the idiot that assembled it will be fired once you complain, if he hasn't already.

You shouldn't have any problem except possibly fighting for a credit on the cost to ship it back to them, but I would be suprised if they gave you any grief over that.

I wouldn't admit you did any work inside. Just that you heard it rattle so you opened it and saw all the damage. No need to give them any opportunity to claim you may have caused the damage just in case.

Glad to hear it worked out that way. Any company can have a problem like that now and then. How they handle it says a lot about the company and Dell seems to be on the right track judging by this outcome.

:mad BAH! ALL GARBAGE! I would of caused a huge problem so I could get a better one for my huge inconvience! :o :p You should of asked to speak to the highest manager you could get a hold of and gave them this big speel on how they really let you down and you'll question ever going with them again or recommending any clients to them again. :p Well hey atleast they helped you out... more than what I can say for gateway :bang I remember like 3 years ago I wanted to get my cable modem and asked them how much a NIC would cost coming from them.

Gateway: Well it'll be about 65$ plus shipping.
Me: WHAT? They're like 20 in the stores!
Gateway: Yes but there is no garuntee they're compatible.
Me: Yea and I could also buy 3 different ones for the price of yours.
Gateway: Well si*click*

Gateway is such a dishonest company :d runk

I just got one of those 400sx servers - sweet little rig - will use standard ddr - and the clamshell case is pretty impressive - i added 512 of pc 3200 and an agp vid card -

final specs
p4 2.4 800 fsb HT
inter i875 chipset at 400 fsb
512 crucial pc 3200
9500 pro
40 gig 7200 hd
cdrom
thing has usb2, serial ata, onboard sound, onboard nic, etc

have one chipset driver i haven't figured out how to install yet, then will rum some benches - appears very quick

cost $400 after rebate+memory and vid card - ended up with an extra stick of ecc 128mb pc3200 and a 8 mb ati pci vidcard
