Nvidia buying 3dfx
Hopefully, ATI will keep pushing Nvidia to perform. Like I stated elsewhere in this forum, I was looking forward to comparing the Rampage to the NV-20, now I guess I have to wait for the next version of the Radeon from ATI.
One last thing, I sure hope Brotha's family is on suicide watch.

*just announced* see <a href="http://www.pcabusers.net">here</a>
"Nvidia, on the heels of their aquisition of 3dfx has announced the video card for the "true" next generation of gomers. The "GeeWiz 007" will incorporate glide support and everything else on the market. Even the ability to "SLI" it somewhow to take more of your moola.
Specs include 256mb real fast ram, video in, out and under, remote control(not sure what for though), DVD support(*you must supply dvd software or hardware) and the ability to instantly fry it if it makes you mad. That way you can get another to help Nvidia pay off their bills. All this for only $899! If you get the SLI version then add another $1199 (*needs another mobo too). *please note
oftware will be stable when we get around to it. thank you all for your loyal support

People keep saying that this is bad for consumers, but really 3dfx wasn't forcing nvidia to keep their prices low over the last year as far as I can tell. NVIDIA ONWED the value segment with the GF2 MX (a new phenomenon) without any real 3dfx choice until the V4 4500 was released much later. IMO the pricing of their upper end cards seems dictated by the price of fast DDR RAM and how much is on the card more than the price of 3dfx counterparts.
NVIDIA will dominate the video card market for only as long as they produce the fastest product at a reasonable price. If anything, 3dfx proved that it isn't a forgiving market segment and that you can't rest upon your laurels.

A short but interesting interview with Brian Burke from Nvidia.

Voodoo Drivers
According to what I've read, 3dfx is responsible for driver support for all existing Voodoo cards. Once 3dfx shuts the doors, driver support will probably be non-existent.
