I'm planning to upgrade my machine soon...when I do, I'm hoping to use dual processors. Now, I want to get an AMD...I'm wondering:
what are the main differences between an athlon, a thunderbird, and XP, and an MP...
I just want to know what the differences are and which one might work best/worst in a dual processor mobo. Thanks for all your help.

A question on CPU's...
"This is your life, and it's ending one minute at a time" --Tyler Durden
athlon has of chip cache. there first main cpu, T'bird is mostly socket a and has been there real champ, the 2 newer ones mp and xp offer SSE extentions so now they really mop up the joint with intel. xp is for single cpu MP is dual. what else U looking for?

Athlon MP is for Multi Processors, so of course it would be the best solution, but then would aslo be the most expensive way to go. Just at a glance:
AthlonMP 1GHz - $135
AthlonXP 1700 (1.47GHz) - $135
Athlon T-bird 1.4GHz - $96
Considering the AthlonMP was designed to work in a duel system, that is the only way I would go, although I'm pretty sure you could hook up two t-birds and it'd run just fine. Now comes to the OS. You say you hate WinXP, WinME, and say you probably wouldn't like Win2k. The only OS you seem to like (win98SE) from my knowledge doesn't support duel processors.
You should really check out Win2k. Peeps on the board seem to love it. You could always duel boot Win98SE/Win2k. For what games won't work in Win2k, you could just boot into Win98SE and play 'em.
