Empire Earth

Post by IsmiteU »

I got turned on to Sierra's Empire Earth this weekend. The game offers some very cool extras including the ability to zoom in on the action while battles occur. While the graphics are so-so it makes for a good distraction if you're looking for something different from AOE.

Well, after playing this game for several days I decided it is the real deal. This game is huge, lots of units, tons of action, I am in love. A couple of points if you haven't played it.

1. This game will take about a month if you try and play AOE2 style. So, either pick an Epoch and play tournament at fast or expect to play a CIV 3 style game, it can go very long playing with default speed if you want to go through all epochs.

2. The AI is very hard but you can beat it, practice new tactics, don't try and go AOE2 on it, it will work some but not always. I've learned to upgrade all units ASAP and apply pressure, don't try and rush, the computer is too smart for it.

3. The biggest gripe I have about the game is the lack of easily distinquishing the units from full out zoom, it should be easier to tell what unit is what but it's not. Now, on the other hand, you can zoom in and see the troops getting hit and blood splatter, it's awesome, first time I've seen that in a game like this, and you can see the projectiles leaving the siege weapons, awesome. The detail is all through the game, it really shows.

4. If you like AOE2 and aren't going to play for 2 minutes and then spit on your screen cause it's not AOE2 then you will like this game. Go ahead and give it a try.

on aoe1 and 2 you could do local lan play with 1 copy, you only needed the multiple copies when you went to casa microsoft (zone.com) to play multiplayer online and they checked cd keys- of course there are a variety of alternative arrangements which are never posted here :)

WV,

I'm not sure about the multiple install with one copy thing. Drop me an email though and we'll discuss one of those alternatives if need be.

In your opinion is EE a better game than Battle Realms?

ok, finally got a copy installed and played against the puter on easy for about 3 hours - good AI, it kept trying to take and retake the same isalnd which had a lot of gold - also it kept me wasting resources with skirmish attacks so i couldn't level at the same time - ended up with slingers fighting some roman type guys lol - anyway this looks like another good giant timewaster, though what glass said appears true about - forever games if you play it standard-

it conflictedf with zone alarm the first time i ran it - locked everything up ebfore i could give it server permission, but otherwise ran just fine -

now i'll have to read the manual and find out how to play it - a lot of carryover from aoe but couldn't figure out how to do some things on the fly -

ah, i hearken back to the days of yesteryear when we could play "shang only" games in aoe/conquerors - each guy would have 50 of those giant chariots - woohoo :)

over and out
