You're not talking about uploading - you're saying you can SEND any email Attachments right? You don't have trouble using the browser or FTPing (dunno if you know about FTPing)?
Can you send an email WITHOUT an attachment?
I can't think of ANYTHING that would block only email attachments except MAYBE a firewall, and I even doubt that.
Have you checked for viruses? There's several new ones that screw up the WINSOCK.

Then that's likely your problem. Look up the viruses in McAfee's or Norton's online reference guide. Most modern viruses CAN NOT be eliminated by just doing a virus scan.
Many of them now hide in the recycling bin where anti-virus apps can't touch them, and they leave entries in the registry to resurrect them. Also most of the latest viruses corrupt or infect you WINSOCK driver which screws up your Internet access.

FP- Went to Nortons site and couldn't find any info and the 2 virus's I found(rabbit.exe and 271097.exe). I did a restore in XP from 30 days ago ( that's when I fresh installation of XP)...still didn't work. The virus scanner I use is AVG. Is there a way to fix the problem if a virus has infected winsock?
Thanks
Dan

The virus won't be listed by the file name - it'll be listed by the virus name which the virus scanner should tell you when it finds it - assuming you remember or wrote it down.
Keep in mind that going back to an earlier restore point may restore the virus files.
Assuming the viruses are gone, you should be able to restore a copy of WSOCK32.DLL - I THINK WinXP has a system file checker utility like Win98 and ME does that allows you to restore a specifc file from the installation CD. Not sure and don't have access to a WinXP system here at the moment to check.
Just a guess, but this MAY be the virus you ran into - it seems to cause email problems: http://vil.mcafee.com/dispVirus.asp?virus_k=99286&

Ended up reinstalling XP, which almost turned into a nightmare. Halfway through the installation the 'puter shutdown and wouldn't turn back on. Turned out the power supply took a dump on me. Re-re-installed XP again. I can upload again

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.
