Flasing banner causes 100% cpu???

Post by Jester »

Check out this banner that is located at the top of http://www.wcfords.com ...it will be the banner that says "Get your free WCFord sticker today!", if you don't see that hit reload until you do.

Ok, my system does the weirdest thing. When viewing this banner, my cpu usage will spike up to 100% when the banner flashes when "today" appears. Any ideas why? I've tried a whole bunch of ATI drivers and Omega drivers, I reinstalled Win2k yesterday and tried with the default IE 5.0, then tried IE 5.5, and now 6.0 and still no dice. None of my friends have this problem and they all have non-ATI cards so this leads me to believe that it's a ATI driver problem. Anyone else having this problem and know a fix? If you have a Radeon and Win2k or XP watch your CPU usage as the banner flashes, does it go up at all?

Must be an Athlon and/or ATI thing. There's NO reason why that animation should use that much CPU power.

It doesn't here 1% usage (P3-1000, GF3 Ti-200, 512Mb, Win2K)

I'm guessing it's probably another stupid ATI driver bug....arg!!!

I'm really starting to hate ATI!

UPDATE:

I posted this at a few sites and so far everyone with a Radeon exhibits the same problem. Almost all of them are running T-birds but I finally found someone with a P3-866 that got the exact same problem so yes as I thought, IT"S AN ATI PROBELM! Here's the threads if you're interested, I'll definitely be telling ATI about this:
