did the @Home -> AT&T conversion work with 2K or XP?

Post by Zyph »

Quick Question: Does anyone who is using 2K or XP have the cable modem working yet?

AT&T claimed "when we call you back, just re-start the computers and when it re-starts, it will change your homepage and automatically open up a internet page which will help you connect to the new network." This doesn't sound like something 2K or XP would let happen.....esp with changing of customer's personal settings without asking....and even the firewalls most people have up wouldn't let something through.

Any input? Is it working? Was there alot of settings that needed changed? (ie: did you just change your system's domain and left the computer name?)

I want my cable back....... Image (Too many people are having to share 1 computer and 1 dial-up connection.....it's getting really annoying.)

Only good thing about using our only phone line for the internet........no tele-marketers can call.....nor my work trying to call me in! :D

They capped the download to 1.5mbits :( I was getting 5mbits
Still 128k UP
username/ email is now you@attbi.com
They are using DHCP and not static IP :( I'll find a work around for this.

They were using DHCP before too... you just got the same IP everytime I'm assuming because they put in a reservation for the mac address of your cable modem into the DHCP scope. are you saying that you get a different IP address everytime you boot up now? Also, the 128k upload cap is built into our modems not in their service. Has something to do with the DOCSIS thing'a'magigger. I'm still down tho

Kakarot, I have had a static ip since 1997 and they didn't cap the upstream till Nov 1999. So it's not the modem that has the cap!. Anyways I since the service is semi back up Im checking the ip, gateway, subnet and the DNS which seem to be staying the same. Im still having problems connecting to some site's because for some reason I have 4 DNS servers, should only be 2. Mail service is still down. They should have it fixed soon I hope. Once they fix it, I'm going to run static on the router.

Huzzah!! Everything is working great now and speed seems to be faster than ever before. (maybe the 1.5M that they capped it at is finally reducing the "rush hour" traffic that many people have.....ie: when you get home from work/school, the internet seemed to be slow. [5p-8p]).

Correction: Looks like PCA is the only working website so far....go figure.

[edit again: looks like after a restart, everything's working again.......weirdness]

Ah Little recap,
No mail yet
I can go to a few web site's ,PCA is one of them :D
I've been told: You got the settings wrong, wrong DNS, unplug the modem and wait 30 seconds, Your modem is not dociss, we have your modem configured wrong, we need to send a tech out, the nod is dead. Call back in a hour! wtf, I've already been on hold for a hour, oh well will have a tech call you.

I'm on hold again! At least I got some beer!

Well after a hour and a half on hold for a tier 2 tech, I've leard nothing. execpt you can go to the store, cook diner and half eat it before you get someone. Yes I downed a few beer also :D He checked all my settings and ran a few tests. Guess what? I still have the same problems. In the end this person was stumped and needed to give it to some higher tech to figure it out. All is not lost, I still can play CS online without any problems.

My connection is way too flaky to do alot of anything........I can check e-mail one minute, the next internet's gone....wait 3-4 min.....internet's back....click a link or 2.....then internet goes down again. Gets really frustrating when you're actually trying to get something done.

Basically, when the internet is working, it's nice and fast......when it's not......YOU KNOW IT.

It's gets annoying when it stops working, so you restart your computer or disable and reenable the network connection (or something along those lines) and it will come back, but you have to whatever you want really fast.

This annoys me.....I get internet back (so now I won't get a credit from AT&T for today), but it's not working right....which is almost as bad. So I get screwed both ways: I have to pay for non-working service. Go figure.

Anyone try rebooting your modem?

Post by EvilHorace »

The only recent problem I've had with my RR cable was that the modem needed rebooting for some odd reason, done by unplugging the modems power supply (no on/off switch, not the cable line) for 30 seconds, then waiting until 4 of 5 lights are on before going online. A RR tech support guy told me about that one.
I'm using a broadband cable router too presently 3 PCs (soon another) running ME, Win98SE/Win2K (dual boots) and XP.
I've had very few problems with RR in over 1.5 yrs now.
Another possible problem might be due to your firewall settings. I've had ZA block a few things until I made a few security changes. Just a thought.
