I don't know if this is a driver issue, or an issue with my GF3 Ti-200 but every once in a while I suddenly lose a LOT of fps - I can feel DoD chugging and I'll use cl_showfps 1 to check the fps and sure enough, I'm dipping down to 35 fps half the time.

Now normally I NEVER see it dip below 72 (my fps cap).

When this a happens, only thing that fixes it is to reboot. Then it's fine for a few days until it happens again.

Anyone seen this or have any clues?

P3-1000, Win2K, 512Mb, SB Live, Visiontek GF3 Ti-200, NVidia XP v21.83 driver (latest official driver)

no problem here so far!! don't play half-life mods no more so i don't know about DoD. but running Q3 and all the mods i play everythings smooth. Only game that has some slowdown issues is AvsP2.

It's not a game issue - it's the card or the drivers or something interfering with them. Once it happens, it affects all games: HL, Q3, RTCW

Hey FP where can i find DoD at? I've got like beta 1.1 or something that older than old... And i'm sure they've updated it since then... It was fun when i played it a few months ago.

What is this: cl_showfps thing? Does it show your PFS while you play?

I may be interested in as to how to use this. I would like to know how many FPS I get in a few games. :)

Yes it shows your FPS in the upper right (I think) in HL and its mods.

Quake 3 and Quake 3 engine games generally use /cg_drawfps 1.

So, it's only avaliable in certain games?

Any idea if you can use it in Red Faction? (most CPU intense game I have right now)..

FP,

I'm using the 21.83 Nvidia drivers with my Creative Labs Annihilator Pro and haven't experienced this problem. Currently, I'm only playing games based on the Q3 engine (Q3, Team Arena, & RTCW)

It SEEMS to have gone away once I used the setting in the OpenGL display settings to force 16 bit color.

I'll have to try going back to the 21.81 driver and see what happens.

I think it may be a desktop color depth issue. I've had some drivers in the past that had a problem in games if I ran the desktop at 32 bit color, but I won't reduce it - I use photoshop.
