No internet in some programs in XP

Post by JMan »

I'm posting this here because I haven't gotten much help in the OS forum.

Some programs can't access the internet on my dad's Win XP Home rig. They all worked fine on 2000/98. He can get IE6, Windows Update, and some other programs working, but a few don't work. The most important is Quicken. Norton Systemworks 2002 (Live Update) and the Quicken installer don't work either.
Everything is hooked up to a Linksys router. The other computers hooked up to the router have no problem with those programs. No firewall is installed yet and the WinXP built-in firewall isn't activated. The NIC is a Linksys. No proxy settings are checked anywhere that I can see. The XP install is a clean install, not an upgrade.
Thanks,

JMan

Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't work. I tried setting it to both Win2K and Win98 modes.
Any more tips?

Did you ever get it working JMan? I can't get any FTP programs to connect on XP for some reason but everything else works...?

No, I haven't gotten it to work :(
I might just reinstall XP for him... might be kind of a pain though.
If anyone knows anything about this, I'd appreciate your help.
