abit kg7 mobo + geforce3 + win2k = problem :(

Post by kru »

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with this one:

I've got a 1.33ghz athlon in an Abit KG7 RAID motherboard and a Visiontek Geforce3 card. Whenever I try to launch a game or alt-enter a video to get in fullscreen mode, my system locks up. If I so much as run the Direct3D test in DirectX, it will lock up. I'm running Win2k with SP2 and all the latest drivers for the motherboard installed.

Can anyone help?

[edit]
Just to add to what I've already posted, I'm using the most current Detonator drivers. After searching through this forum, it looks like other people have had problems with Via chipset-based motherboards (my Abit uses the AMD761/VIA 686B chipset) and geforce cards. I've installed the 4-in-1 thing as well as the AGP miniport driver but it still doesn't work. On a positive note, my system runs fine otherwise. The only problem is when I try to launch a 3D or fullscreen a video. I've got 512 megs DDR ram.

those sites have lots of info

my computer completely rejected my inno3d GF3 TI 500 i cant run 3d games eather! I am gonna send my card back this problem you are having is common im willing to bet there is a support group for this issue somewere. if i were you i would send your GF back and get a ATI Redeon 8500 thy are cheaper and offer bout the same performace. try underclocking your card too (240Mhz core @200Mhz and 500Mhz mem @ 480Mhz) my card was partly fried and this fixed the problem. if it still does it even after all the tweeks (like me) return the card, get a redeon. also Win 2k apperently has ALOT of problems with the GF3 msot of the troubleshooting stuff ive seen is pointing at win2k. try loading 98se or win XP on see what happens.

Geforces dont like to share IRQ's try turning off yer box and ripping out all your devices execpt your vid card (duh) make sure that there are no drivers still loaded form a older card that was in your comp before, then finnaly see if the program works. you may also want to try reformating your HDD and starting all over, may fix itself i dunno heres my post that i made have a look my have additional info for you.

good luck hope one of these tweeks lets it work for you.

(if they dont i can get you a great deal on a redeon $250.00 for the 8500)

actually, the problem was solved simply by flashing the bios on the motherboard.
