Memory benchmark

The last time I ran SiSoft Sandra to benchmark the memory I got 550 on the results. Now I have upgraded from a Voodoo5 to a Radeon 8500 and it is getting 1550. Can a graphics card have that kind of effect ? Nothing else has changed. Same Windows install too.
