XBox, GameCube, GBA.....are you getting a console?
Bah! Console vermin! Lol, jk, but I do really prefer the PC over any console. Even though its more expensive (my graphics card costs more than the xb0x), I find it has much better games and graphics. Return To Castle Wolfenstein is out in some places today, I'll probably pick up a copy tommorrow. Only console I use right now is a Game Boy Advance, but I'll use it even more once I order a flash advance linker so I dont have to buy those damn rip off games. Consoles have their purpose and seem pretty awesome once released, but within 6 months afterward the PC has taken such a large lead over the lates consoles in terms of power and game design that I find buying consoles disheartening when instead I could save up and buy a new video or sound card. I'm curious as to how the consoles will look on my HDTV, but I dont think any games run in native 1080i yet. If they did, I would seriously consider buying an X-Box (Gamecube only does 480p), because running Halo in high-def on a 65" screen is seriously appealing =) Gamecube seems like a kids toy to me imho, and its launch titles are rather dissapointing, since Luigi's mansion is really easy and has no replay value, RS2 has cool graphics but also isn't that replayable, and super monkey ball may play well for a while but it just doesnt appeal to me..
Welcome to the machine.
Let me just say rogue I was a diehard PC gamer for the last 4 years and just got fed up with the buggy/incomplete software. Also in some cases waiting 6 months or more for a patch(if there is one at all)sucks.I still game on my PC,just not as much as I used to.
Yeah but you dont have to upgrade a console every 6 to 8 months to run the latest and greatest games at decent framerates either.Consoles are not maxed out with the 1st gen of games.2nd and 3rd gen games tend to be more polished and pull off some great visuals once devs get used to working with the hardware.PS2 is a good example.
Rubbish.A kid's toy is something like "tickle me elmo".I suggest you research some games coming out for GCN.I think you will find alot of those so called mature(as you guys like to call em)games.I'm 28 BTW.
Have you spent any time on any of these games or just played a kiosk at your local game store?I cant speak about Luigi's Mansion because I dont own it.But RS2 has plenty of replay value, try collecting ALL the gold medals(which I havent but RS1 on N64 took me a while)and then you can talk to me about RS2 not having any replay value. And as far as Super Monkey Ball,it's a awesome party game as well as a addictive single player game. The mini/party games alone are worth the purchase.Tons of replay value here.

I dont know about you, but I wouldn't call constantly replaying the same levels to get a better score a good replay value. Replay value means something new and exciting that draws you back to the game even after you've played it for a long time. This is why the PC triumphs in this area, because you can either download new things to play around with or just play multiplayer online with other gamers.
Super monkey ball on the other hand, I suppose, can have pretty much endless replay value due to the nature of its ever-changing content, so your statement about it being a great party game is true.

I've spent at least half a dozen hours playing the gamecube at my friend's house, and I was not really impressed. Luigi's mansion seemed really easy, and the graphics didn't blow me away like everyone said. RS2 sure looked awesome, but I was rather bored with it after playing it for about 2 hours. Wave Race: Blue Storm, on the other hand was pretty good. My friend and I had a blast racing each other on the nice looking levels. The level with an actual storm in it is crazy hard though, but I was pretty impressed with the game. While these games may appeal to a lot of people, I feel as though the Xbox had better launch titles, with DOA3 and Halo. DOA3's graphics just blow everything else away, and Halo is an amazing multiplayer game, especially if you do cooperative with your friend. Driving the Warthog while your friend mans the gun is soo cool.
Welcome to the machine.
I'll give Halo props for being a killer game but DOA3 is nothing special.Still the same old button masher as DOA2 for DC was(which I own).Even the hardest Xobox fanboy will admit being let down by DOA3.As far as 3D fighters go,give me Soul Calibur over the DOA series anyday.

I got a GameCube after it was released on Sunday morning at Toys R' Us. I purchased the Indigo Cube, 2nd controller (clearn and indigo), mem card, Luigi, Star Wars, and Madden 2002. I think the graphics look great (atleast on par with PS2 if not better in my eyes.) Star Wars sound is outstanding and the graphics are great. Madden is just awesome also. Luigi is a good kids game and my wife really enjoyed it. I like it too, but not as much as SW and Madden.
I couldnt find an Xbox around here, so i just got a gamecube. Plus i keep hearing small problems with the Xbox. I saw someone say there was a 1% failure rate, but damn i've talked to alot of those 1% people! Xbox looks great, but i'll wait till its more readily available with some more games.

I'm not going to jump into the console debate other than to say if I had to pick only one at this point it would be the Xbox. But I don't have to pick just one so it's not a problem.
Right now is a great time to be a gamer. It's just that in this past week I have got so much stuff (and spent a lot of money) that I don't know what to do with myself. I beat Halo yesterday and today I think I'll play Wolfenstein and probably Rogue Leader next then maybe Metal Gear Solid 2. I'll agree that Super Monkey Ball is a blast. The only thing I lack now is a HDTV. That's probably next on my agenda...
Too many wires...

The PS2 has all the good games right now.....Metal Gear Solid 2, Devil May Cry, Grand Theft Auto 3, Tony Hawk 3, Spy Hunter, Grand Turismo, SSX Tricky, and tons more.
I played an XBox for about 20 minutes at a kiosk and the controller made my thumb cramp up so bad I had to stop (some game called Mad Dash or something). DOA3 is a beautiful looking fighting game with a crappy fighting system, same as DOA 1 and 2. It just doesn't have the depth of a Tekken or Soul Caliber game and really isn't as fun as Virtual Fighter, Bushido Blade or even Bloody Roar.
Halo looks cool, but it's really the only impressive game on the system right now and they screwed up the multiplayer. It was slated to be a multiplayer on a tribes type of level and that was where the real excitement was.
I don't know about the GameCube, it's too early to tell. I think Nintendo shot themselves in the foot once again by not making it able to play DVDs though.
