k, this didn't happen to me, so decide what you want !
Someone had bought some new ram for it's 486 computer, about 4MB sticks, and called tech support to tell them it didn't work. Now, the tech guy asked how did the person install the ram. the person responds "I put them in the slot in the front of my computer, but it doesn't work".
Here's one that happened to me.
I just installed Linux on my comp, but I wanted to install Windows back. I fdisked the harddrive, and reformated, reinstalled my OS, then, when I lunch the pc, it said LI, then nothing. (I was a newbie at that time !) I reformat, reinstall, still nothing. I reformatted about 20 times, just to find out I didn't put the command "fdisk /mbr" !!! I lost 2 days just because of a little command !

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem ...
Well, it has indeed come to and end - great stories from everyone, thanks for posting them and sharing them!!! The really hard part is deciding who wins, because quite frankly there were a bunch of good stories here.
AND THE WINNER IS: (drum roll please...)
sigel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"oh spank me HARD daddy" - LOL, that just cracked me up too much!!! I can't help it but that's the one that made me bust up laughing, I can ssssssssssoooooooooooooooooooo see the way that happened

Honorable Mention #1:
blade_146, well written and man can I identify with that story - even down to the slow motion aspect of it. You sit there and somehow you knew you were about to do something stupid but still don't stop yourself from accomplishing that awesome stupidity. EXCELLENT!!!
Honorable Mention #2:
joey_rjm5, that computer sliding off like that was really a good one - not at the time I guess though...DOH!
Honorable Mention #3:
Really everyone, there were a lot of great stories here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
**********************************************
Like I said though, this was really hard for me to judge since ALL these stories were very funny and entertaining - I was really happy to see so many people participate and have fun with this - to me this is what PCA is all about!!! And if you feel like contributing another story just for the heck of it, go ahead

2 weeks ago I added another 256 meg stick into my KT7Pro in my system. I installed it by feel as I didn't want to pull my monster server case out of it's hidding place. Well like a dumb ass I installed it backward (I get confused in my advanced age) and when I fired it up I fried my motherboard and the memory. Luckily the memory was cheap and the motherboard was given to me. I still felt like an idiot though.

Ich bin ein PC Mißbrauch
I know its over, but I still want to post.
Sorry I'm late, but what the heck, I'll tell my story regardless.
I read a on an earlier post of the fan and finger incident...You are not alone. Me too have suffered let me tell you why.
Like most of us when we install pc components, we often leave the case open just to make sure things go well. My case is an original 360 Blizzard from FrozenCpu.com which has 1 giant fan on the back below the Powersupply and next to the cpu. On the cpu is a taisol HS with 7000rpm fan.
After all my components are setup, I turned on the CPU/System temperature test. The temperatures were very low and I was excited because I've never had a CPU temperature this low.
Without hesitation or looking at what I'm doing, I reach my right index finger inside the case towards the cpu. Then BAMMM....My index finger got hit so hard that it spun my hand toward the Case fan...The Case fan then give me another punch on the tip of my middle finger, cut off the tip of my nail and I was in Double Trouble. Two fingers of mine are bleeding...however, I just suck all the blood with my mouth. The stupidity didn't end there, I put my left index finger in the case like 5 minutes later after the first collision, this time I was careful because I look. However, the CPU's temperature starts rising and I was anxious to touch it one last time and without hesitation,,, Another Punch to my left index finger. OUCH, I scream, stomping the ground and squeezing the pain with my other hand... Both of my hands are in so much pain that I went in the closet and Cuss at Bin Laden for 5 minutes.LOL. Anyways...I still don't know if I've learned or not, but it happen to me so many times and this is the most painful one. Before, it was just a hit and I pulled back, No problem because with 5400RPM fan. Actually I broke the 5400RPM fan when I put my finger in, It broke the plastic blade twice. My fingers were in pain, but no blood, just purplish color on the tip of my fingers.
Any how I know it is my fate that CPU fans will cut me and in any case I'm gonna where gloves when I install PC components.

Murray, did ya miss this part in the first post?
Murray, you're not allowed to win because some of this stuff is stuff you don't want to get back - hahaha - some of this is still from the box you gave me with odds and ins that I'm just not ending up using. (Just had to post that since you may sit there and go "Hey!!! That stuff looks familiar!!!" Not only that but you just have TOO MUCH STUFF already!!!
LOL
Red, that first trade WAS 10 years ago in Net years!!!
Yeah, we all still do dumb things at times and the phunny part is that most of the time you know you shouldn't be doing it and still go through with it - that's when that slowmotion feeling happens when you did what you knew you shouldn't have done what you decided to do anyway...but you should have known better,,,but you decided to ignore the obvious because it won't happen to you again...so you think...yep, we've all been there done that and if you haven't...your time will come, just check Kcucumber's story and remember it until you do it

Please check into this OR increase your medical benefits substantially for emergency room visits - especially since most of us work on our rigs after hours when regular doctors are not available

sigel, I think (speaking of old age and memory) I already emailed you that your box is on the way per UPS, but in case I didn't email you...well, your box is on the way per UPS -
