I know that most of the post offices in the dc area are closed at least temporarily, and i've seen reports of mail delayed 1-2 weeks because of the current problems - I'll probably be switching over to UPS or Fedex - what's everyone else doing about this?

I have always used fed-ex w/o any problems at all.The reason being the little PO by my house is always crowded,I can walk in fedex 95% of the time and their will not be a single person in line. The fed-ex is actually a mile from my place,so it's really convenient also
It's a little more expensive than USPS,but the tracking is actual realtime compared to a delivery confirmation stamp.I will never use UPS..It's to hard to file a claim with them IMO!!!No matter how it's packed that's always their excuse from what I've heard. They also damage more stuff than fedex and usps put together from what I've heard

I've been using USPS still but in light of the fact that I live in NJ, I hold my breath while I open the mail and wash my face and hands after opening it. !! I also take any envelopes and packing boxes out to the garbage behind the house immediately after extracting the contents. Call me paranoid but these damn terrorists think NJ is their 2nd home. bastahds !
Anything I've sent via USPS seems to get there on-time or takes maybe an extra day.

Same here. It's maybe been a tad slow... maybe packages arriving a day later than I would think they'd take but thats. it. Where before it was 2-3 days. Its now 2-4 which isn't a huge increase I don't think.

I haven't had any problems with the PO as of yet.... but I can always send things via FedEx from my work and pay them back for the shipping costs... which is kinda nice since they get a good rate through them as they ship a lot of things

Guys, I posted something about this at ATech yesterday... the USPS will soon be initiating a gamma radiation protocol for all mail (boxes as well as letters) that has been confirmed by the treatment manufacturer to be harmful to, if not destructive of, electronic components such as PC parts.
This is something we need to be seriously considering. If FedEx and UPS go the same route, which is entirely possible, we're gonna be screwed (as far as online trading goes, anyway).

Hello. My name is Lawton, and I am a hardware addict. <a href="http://heatware.elitehardware.com/view.shtml?action=list&option=lawton">Heatware Evals! </a>
I just received a money order yesterday sent via Priority Mail from 44 Wall St. NY, NY . It took 18 days to get here . The guy insisted on me sending his part via USPS even after he saw it take 18 days for his money order to get to me . ?
BTW , Todd , did you get the package I sent you with your game you had forgotten in the cdrom ?

I talked to people at the P.O. today and they said that there is only one machine set up in Ohio and the both FedEx and UPS will have to go through the same process. I asked what I could do to protect my shipments and the guy handed me an insurance slip. What an ass.Originally posted by Lawton

I use Fedex almost primarily for shipping. I have always had good success. USPS is really in a state of panic with what’s going with bio-terrorism. I watched my mailman the other day deliver mail wareing a facemask and gloves up to his elbows. There has to be alot of anxiety with the postal workers right now. I really hope they catch these A$$holes that are doing this.

Some of the usps clerks here wear gloves and a few had those white masks on too. They said they are really scared and one I talked to said she is looking for another job. All were females, didn't seem to bother the males though.
Frankly I believe the only way to stop the terrorists is extermination of them all and there's no way that will ever happen unfortunately. They are so brain washed and twisted they really believe what they are doing is God's will and if they die they will go to paradise.
Anyway, we'll see how this plays out. There has to be some ways to kill the spores without damaging the other package contents. Most letters containing anthrax have been rather obvious so far but if they continue I'm sure they'll start making their packages look more professional and like it came from a store.
It might get worse since we'll keep attacking duing their so called "holy month". But I do agree we must continue.

If they really are going to start doing this and destroying electronic components (do you know how much stuff electronic gets shipped?) I think it'll be very nice to have insurance on these packages, buy a 20gb hard drive, insure it for $35,000 (important data :-) ) and when it gets to you damaged and not working, then well, it's time for that BMW you've had your eye on :-)
