WTB a 16x burner

Looking for a reasonably new 16x ide burner with all software and cables. Wanting to spend around $60-75 shipped if possible.

Looks nice but more than my cheap ass co worker wants to spend. I told her $75 wouldnt buy much but i'd give it a shot. I was just hoping someone might have a used liteon or something similar for cheap. If not newegg always has them for $75 + shipping which will probably be the way i have to go anyway. oh well theres always hope

Hey Kevin, get her to cough up another $33 and get a Lite-on 24/10/40 from Newegg.
This is one of only 2 or 3 burners that can copy SD2 and everything else that's out at
the moment. Why mess with a used burner, when you can get one with additional
capabilities and a fair reputation for a few bucks more? These burners are supposed to
rival Plextors in dependability, however her milage may vary. I have a Lite-on 12X that
has been bullet-proof. Also, for $3 more, she can get a retail boxed version that comes
with a 24X CDR and, I would suppose, a 10X CDRW disks, along with cables. HTH

hey pal, I have one that I could probably let go for $90 shipped, w/ a spool of about 35 CD-R's to go with it, since you're gonna hve to buy em anyway...you wouldnt spend extra going this route.

Retail boxed 16x10x40 yamaha w/ all included packaging and software, and I can include the spool of CDR's for ya.

Hey Kevin, Newegg has 16x10x40 Lite On's that will copy SD2 for 74 plus 8 shipping. os hats 82. The OEM and Retail are the same price and that is the model number that will copy SD2...

PreDatoR, not meaning to get involved in your beliefs or beefs, but I don't believe the Lite-on 16X will actually read and copy SD2. Here again, I could be wrong, and will stand corrected, but the 16X uses burnproof, which I think prevents it from handling SD2, whereas, the 24X burner uses something called smart-burn and it definitely will handle SD2 without any problems. The only reason I bring this up is that I've had problems with trying to back-up copies of SD2 games lately and have done quite a bit of research. Actually, I've been considering one of the 24X burners myself, however I'm hesitant to give up my 8/4/24 Plextor, which has been a champion. Here again, if I'm wrong, please direct me to something that will show me the 16X will do what we're talking about, because I would like to save a few bucks, too.

You are partialy correct... That model number of the 16x Lite On will do SD2 it has a generic burnproof and not the actual thing.... The model number on that one is 16102b there's also a model number 16101b. That has actual burnproof and is the one that won't burn SD2. A buddy of mine has had both and has verified that... I don't have any links to prove it but i've had about 3-4 people tell me that the 16102b will do SD2 backups.

Hey PreDatoR, what you are saying makes sense. I've heard that the 12/10/40 drive will do SD2, which I think is the model 12102B. Mine is a model 12101A or B, not sure, but I am sure it won't do SD2 at all. Perhaps the 40X read speed makes that difference. I sure wish I knew for sure, because I sure could use a burner that was able to backup SD2 and the 16X would certainly serve my purposes better than the 24X, not only because it's quite a bit cheaper, but also because I probably have 2 to 300 CDR blanks that are rated at 12X. They would probably burn OK at 16X, but probably a nogo at 24X. I'm gonna check into this a little further. Please don't think I was questioning your knowledge, but I do appreciate your reply. This might help more than just Kevin's friend.

Its cool i always thought that too until a buddy of mine told me different... The 2B models will do SD2 though and the 1a or 1b won't cause it has actual burnproof on it instead of a clone. I don't even know if my Yamaha does it or not? Anyone know if the 16x10x40 yamaha will do SD2?

Actually, I have the Yamaha 16x10x40 and it does NOT do SD2. However you can sometimes bypass that using BetaBlocker. Worked for a backup I needed. Anyhow, I am going to sell my Yami for the 12x10x40 Lite-On. It does SD2 and for around $65. Besides, once you hit 12x, anything over that seems like a marketing scheme to me. I remember going from 2x to 4x...it was literally half the time. I bought my 16x cause it was supposed to take like 5 minutes, but 12's were doing it in just over 6 and the new 24's are just under 5. Seems like a waste of cash to me. Then again, I'm getting older and the number game isn't as important as it used to be. But I guess the point was Yamaha 16x doesn't do SD2.
