What's as good as the Delta, but quieter? (well, almost as good)...

I am just thinking about trying to find a different fan for my heatsink, I can survive for now. But, I did check, and my fan is on correctly, and I get 113 F.. :\
Are there any fans out there just as good as the Delta, but quieter?

Sean, you don't have much choice bud
Either you get performance and noise, or higher temps and some peace and quiet. But there is another option.

Easy to do and I'm averaging 114F under full load on a 1.33 at 1.5 Tbird. Of course that's with good case cooling and an ambient of around 75F. Most people have had bad luck with those 80mm to 60 mm adapters, as they cause too much back pressure with the fan. The SK6 only really works well when it has a high volume of fast moving air on top of it. I have a dual 80mm intake blow hole near the the cpu/vid card area in the side of my case, so I'm sure that helps a lot too.
Just check out the places like, http://millisec.safeshopper.com/ or http://www.2cooltek.com/ and look at the CFM, (cubic feet per minute) of the available fans in the size you need.
good luck,
sethpa

"my overclocked brain runs much faster with the thought processor disabled"
Used one myself at first and it was just too darn loud. Sounded like a high-pitched airplane dive bombing me. Nexus suggested the thermaltake fan off a volcano II. What's weird is it's cheaper buying the volcano II which includes this fan than buying the fan by itself. Anyway with the thermaltake my temps jumped 10-13 degrees higher but everything is still stable and certainly so much quieter.
What's very strange is I have a heavy copper sink on my 1.4 tbird and using the airplane fan my temp was 89-96 and using the thermaltake it's 109-113. But on my brothers systemj I put on a simple aluminum coolermaster heatsink with the same thermaltake fan and his temps are 93-103. I have an epox while he has an abit mobo. Using arctic silver II of course.

I'm running an Athlon 1.4.
I am using the Taisol copper bottom heasink with the lower speed Delta. It runs around 5900 rpm. I can't hear it at all. If the room is around 75 degrees F. I get temps slightly under 100 degrees F. at idle.
If the room is around 80 Degrees, I run around 100-105 idle. I can take those temps with a good piece of mind. That's not hot at all. Airplane engine sound for a couple of degrees make no sense to me at all. I spend a lot of time at my computer. I want acceptable temps but also tolerable conditions. Airplane engines are not tolerable to me, thank you very much. If you need to be a wannabe jet pilot, go for it and get you one of those big Delta's along with a helmet and goggles. Some of these temp freaks really crack me up!

Mike, does that mean your computer isn't as loud as a retail computer (for say: a Dell). Mine is twice as loud as our dell down here, and begins to get on my nerves sometimes. My fan runs at about the same speed (5200 RPM), on the SK6, and I still end up at 114F idle... Maybe it's my motherboard, having all the features it has. I also use my onboard sound, and a lot of the other features my GA-7DXR has... This dell only has a fan in the back for ventilation, that's it! Mine is loud enough, that when I listen to music, or DVD's, I have to turn my volume louder so I can hear the movie. :\

the fan you are using off the volcano is actually Quieter then the one off the taisol. Unless yours is defective ofcourse.
Here is another option for quieting it up. on my one system I ahve in my TV room I have put resisters on the fans to slow there spin speed. I honstly think somethign in your system is a little goofy. i mean my 1.4g runs between 32c and 35c most ALL the time....gaming and seti + F@A all running might eek it up to 40c. this is with an SK-6 and the volcano 2 fan.
Ship it over here and Ill do it for ya.

Well my computer is not noiseless. I have a 120 and a 80 fan in front intaking air. I have a 90 and the Power Supply fan exhausting air out the back. Then there is the Delta 5800 rpm on the CPU. So there is noise there. I can hear the air blowing, not any humming or buzzing. Now that 7000 rpm Delta sounds much different. It's not an air blowing noise, it's more of a airplane engine kind of noise.
Problem is, to have good airflow, you are going to have some noise, no way around it. If you hear nothing at all, then you will eventually smell something. Heh heh.

After changing to the thermaltake fan my initial temps were 109-113 but around a week later they dropped to around 105 without changing anything. Then I did some playing around and ended up redoing the a/s and my temp was around 95-98 idle and max at 104 playing a game.
Now, I try the 1.4 on a different mobo and the temp is 100-108. Put it back on my mobo and now it's around 98-102 idle. It's how we apply the a/s I think and plus that stuff seems to go everywhere too easily and that may add to higher temps. I'll redo mine again later to try and get it back around 95-98 idle. Not a big deal of course but I like seeing it under a 100,hehe.
But everything is so quiet. Thanks again for your idea nexus.
btw, I use my airplane fan to mow my lawn.

I just checked my temp and it is 95 F. That's in an approx 75 F room. Not bad at all. I built a small office in my garage. The temps are different from day to day because the room is very small (only 8' x 7', I call it my little computer cockpit room) and room temps vary quite a bit from day to day (door closed or open, outside temps, floor fan/AC on or not, etc). I am extremely happy with my Taisol copper bottom heatsink. It doesn't get much press but it a very good heatsink none the less. I really like the tripple clip. That sucker is on rock solid.
I think it's my motherboard.. :\ It is fancy, and rare. Not very many people have it. (GA-7DXR) I turned off STR, and it was 2-3F cooler in the BIOS, but back up to 45C in Windows. Another reason is might be running hotter, could be due to the arctic silver I spilled ALL over my processor. I got most of it off, but, I didn't rub it off with alcohol or anything. Could that really boost up my temp by 5C? Could it also be my voltages? (12 runs at 12.25)
LOL, Greg, any ideas of what you would do? Who knows, maybe I could.
blade, are you talking arctic silver? Does it really help if you re-apply it to you processor?
