Hokay, this just struck me this morning. Has anyone else begun to wonder the same thing?

Maybe the FBI should investigate major stockholders in the company that manufacture's Cipro?

I got the idea while watching a news report about how the company that manufactures Cipro was substantially increasing it's production and the governement is buying large quantities.

Hmmmm.... I'm not saying it's so, but something to think about.

So far we've seen a very small scale use of Anthrax (small quantities like from lab purchases). We've also seen the use of the skin infecting version which is less than ideal for terrorist purposes. And when you think about it, the perpetrators do seem to be ALMOST trying not to infect a lot of people - just build up a scare.

Yeah it sounds like a plot from a movie but so did the WTC attack. Maybe someone is doing this to boost the stock value of Cipro's manufacturer.

Hmmm... there is evidence that FDR let Pearl Harbor happen to bring us into the war. Could this be similar?

I doubt it, but it is an interesting question, nonetheless.

Oh I understand that EvilHorace, I'm just saying that the whole point of this anthrax attack MAY BE to raise the value of the stock of the company.

Heck, we've seen that sort of thing before, just never involving a biological agent.

A lot of people took a loss this year - maybe someone decided to make his money back and lay the blame on terrorists...


Just speculating. Except for the "high potency" anthrax (FBI's words) that was mailed to the senator's office the other day, all the other mailings have been garden variety anthrax that you'd find on animals on any rural farm in a country with poor living standards - even in this country animals still can have anthrax bacteria on them it's just controlled.

Cooincidentally Cipro is still under exclusive patent so it can't be manufactured generically yet, and it's HIDIOUSLY expensive (I just took some for 3 weeks for a prostate infection). The stuff cost me $70 a WEEK and that's after my health insurance discount.

Maybe the government should consider allowing generic manufacturer for the duration of the crisis (bet THAT'LL never get past the pharmaceutical lobbyists!).


The paranoia is getting out of hand. I've got IDIOTS emailing me offering to sell me mail order gas masks and Cipro (excuse me, but Cipro is a CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE and you're not supposed to be able to buy it over the counter).


We're going to have FOOLS taking this stuff anytime they sneeze and if you understand anything about antibiotics, that a VERY BAD THING. Bad enough anti-biotics are already over-prescribed in this country.

Hey, just tossing ideas into the wind here, that's all.

I'm sure the FBI is at least researching it - they considered the fact (and as far as I know it hasn't been dismissed) that some people were tipped off about the WTC attack in advance and made a lot of stock transactions just prior to 9/11 concerning stocks that were sure to be affected after the attack.

We've seen callous and cold attempts to manipulate the market before. It's not all that improbable.

Isn't Anthrax fairly common among livestock in the US? Most of the Anthrax used in the letters wasn't weapons grade and could be treated effectively with Penicillian

Also..........consider the US mails 1 million dollar reward. It's no company thing

I'll bet a buck that it's a perp or group of perps that's affiliated with Al Qaeda. They mailed them from NJ and this state is full of those terrorist bastards. They think it's some kind of 2nd home or somethin'. It's time we rooted all of THEM out as well. You wanna find out who's doin' this anthrax number and where bin-Laden is? Wiretap the mosques in NJ . That's what I'd be doin. We all know the first bombing of the WTC was planned at a mosque in Jersey City. Ah, I was curious how long Bayer has the exclusive patent on Cipro. It's another year, unless the goverment get's it's way and makes it available for generic production due to the threat.

Trust me, a company like that does NOT want this kinda heat when found out - they'd be outta business in a second and anyone involved would be either lynched or killed before even getting to a trial. <b>No one</b> in their right mind would do this as a ploy to make money, the stakes are WAY too high here.
