Anyone have a Gateway 1.4 gig?

Post by Mike89 »

I have a friend who has this. It has a KT133A motherboard made by Keystone. Keystone? WTF!

OK anyway, he has no hardware monitor that is usually included with the motherboard CD that will monitor temps, voltages, etc. In fact he has no motherboard CD. Good ole Gateway.

He calls Gateway to ask about this and the doodes he talks to haven't a clue what he is talking about. Good ole Gateway. Jeez!

Anyway I figured my Via Hardware monitor that came with my motherboard CD would work for his but it doesn't. Mine is the DFI AK76-SN motherboard. This is with the AMD 761 Northbridge and Via 686B Southbridge. I thought maybe since we both had the same Southbridge it might work.

I'm trying to figure out where to get him a Via Hardware monitor that would work since the Via 686B Southbridge is what controls all that stuff. Anyone have any ideas?

Well I already know about Motherboard Monitor. I wanted to find the Via Hardware Monitor. I don't care much for the Motherboard Monitor interface. Too complicated (being it has to info all motherboards) and I never know exactly which settings are the right ones. The Via on the other hand is just for Via Southbridge chips. It may turn out the Motherboard Monitor will end up being the only alternative but it seems there has got to be a Via Hardware Monitor out there that would work.

I might have it on an Epox Mobo CD. I'll look for it.

For some reason it seems that Via Hardware Monitor's from a AMD 761 Northbridge and Via 686B Southbridge won't work on the Gateway KT133A based motherboard (made by Keystone). The Via Hardware monitor will come up but the displayed settings are all wrong. I don' t know if it's motherboard manufacturer specific or not but I'm beginning to think it is. One time my son tried my Via Hardware monitor (because it was a newer version than his) on his Abit KG7 Lite which has the same chips as my DFI. They were not compatible with each other. In this case the CPU and Board temps were backwards. I think that only a Via Hardware Monitor from a KT133A motherboard has a chance of working. I tried to find a link to Keystone motherboards but can't find one. Seems Keystone makes for OEM only, not the end user.
