problems with laptop battery

Post by Saint »

I have a Compaq Armada 7350MT.

I removed the battery when I replaced the hard drive, and now that I put the battery back it, it's completely dead. The computer won't recognize that there is a battery inside, and will not turn on without the power cable.

Once inside windows, the battery is not recognized.

The compaq web site says to upgrade the RomPaq, but I've already done that to the latest version.

It also says to removed the battery for 4 days, and then install the battery and charge for 24 hours.

Any ideas?

Have you removed the battery for 4 days then charged it for 24 hours?

I admit I have not done that, but I'm looking for a faster solution, or perhaps someone to affirm that this is an intelligent course of action.

I'm just a little worried. If I can't get the battery working, I've just turned a laptop into a small desktop...

I used to do repair work on laptops. This was a typical course of action. We would tell people to FULLY discharge the battery (use the computer until it dies, immediately turn the computer on and run it down again, repeat this until the system won't even boot). Then chrage it overnight and see what happens. If that still doesn't work, do this and wait 4 days and charge. If that doesn't work, there are a few places around that sell laptop batteries cheaper than you can get them from the mfg.

I appreciate your suggestion, but I can't run the battery down, because the battery is not recognized at all...it's DEAD, as if there is no battery there. If I remove the power supply from the wall, the laptop dies....

If the battery is inside, the battery charging light DOES NOT come on.

This is very strange.

Yeah I think nexus hit it. When the lappy went back together the contacts for the battery might have shifted off just a little. You might want to take the whole thing apart again, and start over.

I've removed and restored the battery several times now, and it still doesn't work at all.

According to tech support, if I don't receive a certain error message upon boot up, then the connection is fine and it must be the battery.

I've ordered a new battery, and if that doesn't do it I know it's the system board and at that point I might as well admit to myself this will be a small desktop machine permanently...
