hey everyone,
First off, I got it together... woohoo... and run some diagnostic tests off a boot disk, everything seems to bet okay, BUT I do have a question. The cpu seems to be running hot. first off, here's the system.....
TB 133GHZ cpu (not oc'd right now)
Gigabyte 7DXR MB
GlobalWin CAK38 cooler (It's not as load as everyone says)
Artic Silver II compound
Antec SOHO case (only the 2 std exhost fans in back (do plan on adding fronts -- and eventually blow hole)
I don't have the OS yet, So right now I'm just lettin it run in bios. I heard from someone that a person got MUCH higher temps in bios then in windows for some reason... is this common? It might be what it is. It's safe right now, but it's also not under load or anything.
Temps it's running are:
CPU 49C/120F
System 26C/78F
That seems high to me from the bios, and no overclocking. Did I get a bad thermal connection between heatsink and cpu? PLEASE say no! Lol... i don't want to do that over, and now that it's in the case.... O JOY! lol.
TIA

Ya, I'm using artic silver II thermal compound. I don't think to much... but I don't know. I couldn't see the pink of the cpu core, and try'd to get it as flat as possible, but was some little 'waves'. Should the coat be semi-transperant thin? I'm not sure if I coul dhave used less, and not gotten pink showing through in areas.
Ya, I'm aware it's safe, and I just read somewhere that when sittin in the bios, the temps are closer to full load temps then idle temps... so that is better. But I'm gonna wanna oc this, so I want as much ley-way in temp as I can get. In anycase, I think I'm just gonna sit tight till I get the os, and can install it, and see what temps I'm gettin fully loaded with seti... or sandra if it allows loading.
Umm... one other thing. If I do wind up wanting to try again on the heatsink install.... can this be done with the mb installed in the case (laying the case on side) or am I going to have to pull evertyhign out
Thanks to all, and tia again

Thanks
Thanks to all. I'ved decided I'll probably remove the mb, for the simple reason that I can get a better angle to make sure get a nice thin coat of as2, and make sure the hsf is sitting correctly. And have decided to try it again, and while i have it out, to lap the hs as well. And thanks for the comments on the cooling progs, (will check them out.. the os will be W2k though.) and the sit with the os and bios.
