What digital camera are you using?

Post by Schwartz »

I saw a thread at another BBS asking what type of digital camera everyone was using. I think it has been a while since I have seen anything like that here. So... What kind of digital camera are you using and how many megapixels is it? Post a picture too :)

I have a Nikon Coolpix 990 3.34 Megapixel and Nikon SB-22s speedlight mounted to a Rollbar. After getting the external flash I don't think I would ever buy a camera that couldn't use one again, it makes a huge difference.

I'm up to somewhere around 1,200 pictures with my camera. I think I've had it nearly a year now. What kind of media are you guys using? When I bought my camera it came with a Lexar 16MB CF card. I purchased a SanDisk 64MB card as well. My dad has a HP 1.3 Megapixel camera that used CF and he had a 4MB card so I figured I would give him the one that came with my camera because I figured 64 MB would be plenty. After I started using the Sandisk card I noticed it took longer to dump the pictures to the card. Since my camera had a million settings I figured I had changed some setting. A few day later my dad tells me that his camera used to show him the picture as it was storing it but now it was only there for a split second and then gone. That's when it hit me, I did some research and found that all CF cards are not the same speed, the Lexar card I had was 8x. I didn't realize that when I bought the Sandisk card. I let him keep the card but the next time I buy one it is going to be a Lexar. I see they make 12x cards as well. At least I think that is what I'll buy, next time I'll do some research first to see what the fastest is before I buy some. :)

Still using my ricoh rdc-4200 which I purchased in '98. Has 1280x960 reso and has always done me well. Only bad thing is it's slow between pics and has no optical viewfinder so I have to use the LCD to see what I take a pic of and that not only uses more battery power but it's also difficult and sometimes impossible to see in bright sunlight.

It uses smartmedia which I prefer mainly because I can use a floppy adapter to transfer pics to any other computer, like a friends, family or whoever. Has 3x optical zoom and the ability to save a pic as an un-compressed .tiff which will make a better 8x10 print than compressed .jpgs. It does have a flash but I usually use a slave flash or 2 when taking indoor pics of several people.

I've probably taken over 3k shots with it at least and around 500 in vegas. It did take excellent night shots of vegas too. Reckon I'll upgrade it sometimes but it does what all I want so why bother for now. It did give me trouble a month or so ago with the sliding on/off button but cleaning that solved that problem.

What I'd prefer mainly is a 10x or better optical zoom and naturally better reso. Why camera makers still bother to use digital zoom is beyond me. Obviously it's just a selling point to those who don't know any better but I think they are getting ripped that way and taken advantage of not knowing that digital zoom is worthless.

I've had an Olympus D-460Z since last December. Nice little 1.3 megapixel camera. Uses Smartmedia memory and is reasonably fast. I picked up the floppy adapter like Blade has and really like that setup. Can't wait for the day they make a "reasonably" priced SLR version digital. That will rock!

I have had a couple of different ones I used, but the Olympus C-2020 Z , for now 2.1 Megapixel

it does a good job, I use Photosuite 3 to edit or photoshop 6 . I have taken about 3000 pictures or more. It is light weight easy to use for both the short movie or regular pictures.......good thing the way hammer01 drives......hey I want to get a picture of............to late we already past it :D

this little camera does a good job at a clear shot going 30 miles and hour

Got a CoolPix 800. Taken some sweet shots with this. Just this last Saturday, I was at SeaWorld Orlando, and got an INCREDIBLE shot of both orcas in mid-flight...I was in the second row of the center section (splash zone). Couldn't have taken a better shot if I were a pro.

I'll see what I can do about posting a trimmed down pic (it's 1200x1600).

2.1 MP, I believe. First thing I thought about it was that it looked like a clown's squirt gun. Got a UV filter on it, otherwise that's it. Have a 64meg Lexar and 128meg Mr. Flash, plus three sets of rechargeables.

OK, if ya wanna see some other pics I've taken in the past, when the camera was new and I sucked cuz I shot at 640x480, head over to my page. Just understand that some cool stuff was up on bigsitecity, which seems to be dead now...
