Anime fans, how do you like Akira?

Post by succubiss »

This will be my second anime dvd.

I was never a real big fan, my brother likes to watch gundam wing and dragonball z cartoons.
I have Princess Mononoke, and really like the content and style.

I just picked up the Akira 2 disc LE Tin.
Is it supposed to be one of the hallmarks of Anime, what kind of expectations should I have going into this?

Don't raise the expectations too high. It is a cool enough movie, but my opinion (sorry Fantum) is that it is a letdown. The story is decidedly odd and non-sensical. Compared to more recent titles like Ghost in the Machine (relatively I know), and Ninja Scroll and even Princess Mononoke, it doesn't hold the interest. Watch it for nostalgia value, but don't expect it to raise the bar on your anime expectations.

i would say it is better then that. the best? Nope but atleast a 70% but compared to the movies out at that time it was THE BEST. Not a bad flick now adays Just people have expanded on what that movie invented.

He's right on the soundtrack. The bike scene? The music there is especially awsome :) Hard stuff to find though. I used to have it but it got deleted in the many formats long ago and now I'm tryin' to find it at a higher birate....
