How narrow minded can you get ?

Post by cobosdan »

Children, a little quiet please!

Remember 3dfx didn't advertise HSR, it's not ready, just an interesting possibility.

It was found in the drivers, forced to a kind of operativity by register hack, and talked about by third parties.

Can you be more objective?, I suppose no.

Remember guys, if Nvidia got something similar in the horizon you'd be salivating all over the bbs and I would hope for their success, believe it or not.
Hope they get it, and ATI too, this would be a good thing for everyone.

And now let's go to the romantic interlude, ahhhh, sitting at night by the fireplace and hearing that lovely coyote howling and whining in the distance.

It would seem some people where defending their mother's honor against a prison mob. And the whiners are ...

Bellz:
go to http://www.voodooextreme.com and you'll see a post by Billy Wicked Wilson talking about the "anti-3dfx Firing Squad's crap we have come to love and expect, time to open up your minds, boys"

Dirk:
the usual visceral exploding. At least you are faithful to yourself if somewhat repetitive.

Legion88:
You accuse me of being a "Sharkfood with no balls".
Wow, you are getting pretty technical, and I might answer you in kind if I could get piqued enough, sorry.
Wonder what's your real motivation.
If it's just maliciousness, I'll just laugh with you. :D

There are some voodoo owners in this bbs (yeah sure, I'm an optimist :( ) an my post intends to inform them, it's not for you happy Nvidia owners, except for the fun that you always get from a few, heh.

If it irks you, just don't read it :)

Well, since we like to cut and paste so much..here is a paste from Jasen "Torrid" Torres of VoodooExtreme:

"The higher the setting, the greater the HSR effect, and the more graphical errors you are prone to get."

Frankly, you're supercharging a Pinto here. No matter how fast it goes, it's still a Pinto!

You're like one of those guys that soup-up any old car (pinto), just so they can say they're the fastest. The guys in the Mustangs and Camaros (ati and nvidia) are laughing at you.

...and that's the bottom line, 'cause Bellz said so.

It is completely irrelevant if 3dfx didn't advertise the HSR feature. Give us a break with the propaganda.

The point is that YOU and your friends are the ones who have been hyping this HSR feature to death. Oh, let me correct myself. You aren't hyping it. You are simply providing links and quotes of other people hyping it to death. It is a tired old ploy. Let the other people with the balls do the talking. If they were proven right, you can say afterwards that you knew all along. If they were wrong, you can just say that you were only "an expectator[sic]".

Legion88, excuse my writing abilities, I haven't talked with an English speaking person in my life, and sometimes the effort tires me.

I meant spectator, but let's try other words, simpler, hmmmm ...

Suck me. There, I think I wrote those well, yes? :)

Excerpts from http://www.3dspotlight.com/tweaks/hsr/index.shtml

Some difference from Firing Squad, maybe the got better documentation.

"Currently it seems that the HSR feature is limited to Quake 3 engine games, based on the 1.17 code or earlier, such as FAKK2, Quake 3 Arena & Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force.

2X FSAA was also used in the game when running the timedemo’s. & without further ado, here's the Quake 3 1.17 timedemo results.

Hidden Surface Removal setting
Demo 001
Demo 002

Disable
53.9
55.3

Disable – Guardband Clipping enabled
54.3
55.5

Conservative Tiling

Non-Aggressive Tiling
68.8
67.1

Semi-Aggressive Tiling
70.1
68.7

Aggressive Tiling
72.1
69.2

As you can see, HSR has a lot to offer performance wise. Although the current implementation has limited compatibility & requires the use of a few workarounds to remove graphical glitches, the future is looking good for this feature. Hopefully it won’t be too much longer before we see this features implemented fully in Direct3D, Glide & OpenGL.

& remember, the faster your CPU the more you have to gain from this."

not an quote from someone ELSE'S article here. I figured I'd give the V5 a chance and try these drivers on my friends system.

PIII 733 @ 733
256mb pc133
Asus P3V4X
all the cute little driver tweaks you talked about

:( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

I had a tough time getting the system to keep running Q3 for more than a few min. This thing was stable before those driver tweaks. When it did play the game was choppy and had visual artifacts all over the screen. Oh sure I did occasionally get a few more FPS than a I did before, but the rest of the time it was either too slow or too screwed up to play.

But of course dear Biohazard !

Now that you brought all your renowned savvy and expertise to bear on this matter no further tests need be done, forever and ever, amen.

And done on your Fabulous Friends' System too, the paradigm of the ultimate universal standard PC.

Any results obtained in that Final Machine is guaranteed to be valid for any other PC, no matter the hardware, driver or configuration (also for the Macs).

I have already signed a petition to 3dfx to drop the development of this fiasco drivers. Thousands have. Even 3dfx has signed.

Oh, thanks so much, now we can dedicate to other, more useful matters like re-reading all Dirk's posts in search of Eternal Wisdom!

JMan, leave poor cobosdan alone! Just keep in mind, we had to deal with BROTHA before. This newer, harmless version of BROTHA suits me just fine. In fact, I'm just going to refer to cobosdan as BROTHA 1.0 rev. B. It's a lot harder to type, but strange humor knows no bounds.

Oh, and on a totally unrelated note, I love your sig JMan :D

usually I'd be offended when someone says something like that. but I know he's too dumb to get pissed off about.

All I did was go insearch of a system that "worked" with the card before I f'd with this driver tweak. I have to say I don't care much for f'n with drivers at all. I like take it out of the box install hardware, install drivers that came with said hardware, and go about my business. I rarely even go to the websites to update my drivers, let alone tweak the registry!

Sorry, call me lazy, but I just don't think it's worth it (especially not this update)

Bio, may I call you Bio, yes?

That previous post of mine was the result of a hellish day in the office, and you just were the last poster, sorry, even so it was made in a frolicking spirit.

Your test was undoubtly useful as it fills an overall picture, and I'm dissapointed it didn't produce good results. Those drivers need loooong work yet to work well, if ever.

I like you, and I hope I provoked no hard feelings.

We are both manly males, so the feelings between us should be properly limp :)

I think it's time for us "manly males" to take a break and read the

It's a nice read with valuable information about the Voodoo5.
