Norton Ghost is the best I have found. It is pretty simple to use and has saved my bacon more than once.

Ditto. Ghost is the best. I don't use the built-in CD-R feature though becaue my burner is located on my server in a seperate computer. I save my ghost images to a scratch partition and use the -split=680 -auto switches to force Ghost to make all image files under 700Mb in size so they can be easily burned onto a CD later.

To make life VERY easy, I recommend making a 2.5 or 3 Gb partition JUST for your Windows boot partition. Install NOTHING but windows in there. Install all your other apps in other partitions (I'm real anal and all my data: My Documents, Favorites, Outlook data, etc is ALL located on a seperate partition). I backup the boot partition once a month. I backup the data partition weekly.

If your OS gets trashed you need only restore the boot partition - no need to worry about re-installing any apps except those that were installed after the most recent backup.
