Napster is out.. what's in?

hey stacy, I just got DC, it's ok....but which is your favorite 'hub'? I'm getting alot of cable modems that have been 'capped' so it's downloading at a snails pace. the icons for cable, t1, and t3 all look alike, so unlike napster, you can't exclude certain ones and it's hard to pick which to start with, my problem is that I'm not willing to share my entire hard drive (I have found a couple of people who have, which is stupid), but I don't have enough crap on my hdd that can be shared so I get kicked out of alot of hubs. I only have about 300MB of stuff to share, maybe getting a movie or two may help. I'll have to see.

Stacy, which hub do you frequent? Are you listed as 'Stacy'? I'd love to chat while downloading.

for DC, i just go to public and join the hubs with the most people

if u scroll to the right a bit on the users side, then u can see a description of what that person is sharing, and what speed their connection is

OK...now for the 'truth'..heheheheh....I started out dl'g from Morpheus and have gotten a dozen or so movies...some in a matter of 45mins...others in a matter of days....

I finally decided to try DC the other day...so far...being a newbie and all...and hardly any drive space...I had to do what I could to get on with the stupid 2G share min....so I upped a couple movies from disc, shared them....and then deleted them till I dl'd a couple new ones....(had to make room somehow hehe) Anyway, I've had a couple troubles with the resume of one or two movies starting all over from the beginning, slow dl's and what not....but in a nutshell....Morpheus is dead for now to me...it's too buggy...and I'll stick to DC, for I AM having better luck and have dl'd about 4+ movies in the past couple days...(couple I had to start over cuz I'm dumb and screwed up my folders)

Anyway..................(as in true typical woman form, I'm rambling)...........I am on divX planet (as Stacy) since I somehow got my IP banned from another channel and find this one to be 'safe' hehehehehe.

BUT...I must add I have an FTP server that I frequent ALOT where I have gotten the rest of my 60+ movies. (and unfortunately I can't offer any access as he has given out more than his share of 'leech' accounts....although not many of us are leeches...it's kinda a close knit group) BUT.....I can share my movie list and make any of them available thru AOL or ICQ (saves me up'g to hard drive again)

OK, I'll shut up now.

I've tried several of the Napster alternatives including Bearshare, gnutella, etc. I can't really say that I like them. However, one program, WinMX, is great at getting just about any music you want, along with other file types. I've been using it for a few months now, and I've gotten every song I ever looked for on there. It's basically a spin off of the old program CuteMX. It connects to it's own server, and also Napster's servers, so you can get anything off them that isn't blocked. Just make sure to connect to the Napster server.

I think the most annoying thing about DC isn't just that if you have less than a certain amount shared (normally at least 1GB) you get kicked, it has to fit the topic of the channel you are on, many are judgemental about it and kick you out. Which Sucks! Example: You are in Anime Channel/Hub, but you have most of your HDD full of MP3s, they may boot ya. Stupid! Nothing is ever enough for some people!

Yes Zyph, there are a lot of rules and each hub has different ones....so after I was banned from the one, I hit upon the one I haven't left for the past two days......I'm stayin' put....plus I have someone dl'g a movie from me at 1.37KB/s and I just don't have the heart to kill the connection....I've been there myself.....in fact, I just gave someone sh!t for having a 50KB/s limit or else he kills ya (I was getting 15KB/s - which isn't bad at all, I got nothin' better to do)....which basically left him 3 out of the 3 MT frickin' slots he is supposed to share....now those types...well, you know what they can do....

edit to add: when dealing with movies I give a lot of leeway, I mean we are talking 700MB movies here, they are gonna take time no matter how you look at it.....and my comp is always on anyway.

I like Kazaa, I find almost everything with it and I also think it has pretty fast downloads.

Limewire is also nice (I use it sometimes) but it would be nice if it had faster downloads.

Hey Zyph...somehow today I got bumped to a different hub on DC....and I love it....1 gig min. and it seems A LOT faster for the dl's/ul's....don't know enough to know if the 'hub' has anything to do with it or if I have horseshoes up my butt today...(NOT LITERALLY)
