What OS you got?

I have win2k and by far the best supported and quality DVD player is windvd2000

however, check the version number you have, certain versions are better than other. check out dvdutils.com for info

I got my DVD not to long ago it came with Power DVD and I thought it sucked . I got WINDVD and it has worked great for me. Have you checked to make sure that DMA is enabled on the DVD drive

In my experience:

WinDVD - best picture
Power DVD - Best sound

WinDVD is commonly said to have "slightly" better picture and sound than PowerDVD. PowerDVD is said to have a better interface and options. I think the picture quality may be arguable, and the sound unnoticeable. Some people don't like WinDVD for the way it takes over the sound playback in WMP, and has been blamed for totally screwing up Windows. The claim that "Power DVD sucks, tried WinDVD and it was better" I'm sure is based on an older version of PowerDVD. Make sure with either that you get the latest versions because there are significant differences in output quality.
