Folding team members needed! Contest inside.......

Post by sethpa »

Ok, need a few more of you laggards to help us out here. That POS computer your using to surf with is wasting cpu cycles, that we need :) Here's the deal, join us and run Folding @ home proggie for at least a month and you get in on the goodies. Last time was a primo Alpha h/s and fan, that good ol' wvjohn picked up. This time there's lots more stuff it seems. We are kickin' butt and moving up, but need more help. There's at least a couple hundred regular member types looking in all the time and we need at least 10 more, to make it a contest. All the info you will need can be found in the Distributed forum. Any questions? So, post here that you want to get in on it. I'll post an updated list of the goodies as they appear.

a Taisol hs/fan
a FOP 38 hs/fan
a couple modems, possibly
pci NIC
one mangy cat with bad breath, (this one is, unfortunately, optional :D
a mixed bag of simms
and I'll throw in a halfway decent game, slightly used
dvd of U-571
Inside DVD magazine with goodies
Phantasmagoria set, whole bunch of scary stuff
Redhat Linux 7.0

so, chances are not too bad, one in 10, or maybe, we'll just divvy em up to a couple winners if we get 15 or so. you guys can vote on that.

help out with some serious medical research, and put us in the top 10 list of the worldwide folding teams........

thanks for lookin'

C'mon ladies, don't let me be the only female in the group :D Just think how much fun the group picture will be when we hit First Place ;) Stacy, you out there? We need you :) :)

d_b, you're going to make me cry . You know Jon Bon Jovi dies in that movie :(

okay, I just went into pimpin punks room and picked something off the floor for the prize pot. It's about 15 feet of a blue cable. Pretty sure it's networking cable :) Sethpa add that to the list :)

Don't worry bird o the free...it's only a movie. I have it on good authority that he comes back to life when you watch from the begining. :)

Count me in, I'm running SETI right now but I just read another post where the member said running both didn't hurt either one so I'm setting up to start folding right now.

That was quick, I'm up and folding, computer resources are down to 41% with both seti and folding running but I didn't need all dem free resources anyway!

More Prizes!

Post by Zyph »

sethpa, I got some bonus prizes to throw in:

1) A InsideDVD Magazine (Which is Actually a Fully-playable 2 Disc DVD) published for December 2000....It includes the ORIGINAL (1935) Scrooge (It's so old, It's Black and White! )
PLUS a looping fireplace 'movie' that makes you feel warm it's so realistic! :D

2) Phantasmagoria: StageFright [12 CDs] (OK, this prize is only available to those 18+ since it is rated "M")
Stagefright Includes both the original Phantasmagoria [7 CDs] and A Puzzle of Flesh (The Sequel) [5 CDs]
Includes the manuals and (if I can find it) the box. This is the WINDOWS version, not a DOS version.
(This prize IS optional, if you are under 18 or are not a horror fan, let me know when you are declared the winner....but they ARE actually pretty interesting games.)

3) Red Hat Linux 7 downloaded from RedHat.com and burned to CDs (so they ARE bootable). Perfect for those of you who want to try Linux but only have dial up and don't want to spend that money just to "Try It". This is the Free Version, so no support will come with it. (but if you really know about computers, you shouldn't need tech support for Linux  )

Speaking of Prize 3....isn't there supposed to be a Linux version of the F@H software coming out soon?

Who all is entering the drawing? Just the newbies or can the current PCA F@H Members Enter the contest too?

Viperman, depends on the work unit, but lately we been getting those killer dna-binder mimics and you're looking at about 8-9 hours probably, to finish one. As long as you get each work unit finished and returned in 48 hours, it counts. Some of the other work units took as little as 2 hours, but haven't seen any of those in quite a while. The long work units add 5 points to your total, rather than the 1 point the short ones used to give. That Duron would do about as well as my 933 P3, as the AMD processors have a better FPU and run them faster. You can run it 24/7, cause it only uses whatever leftover cpu cycles that you aren't currently using with the computer. Of course if your playing some cpu intensive game or something, the work unit will pretty much quit running till you free up some computer time for it. Check out the distributed forum for more info.

thanks for considering this,
