HOLLYWOOD (Zap2it.com) – From golden guy to Goldeneye, Best Actor winner Russell Crowe could be the next James Bond. Fans of the Aussie actor and Ian Fleming’s famous spy would be both shaken and stirred should it happen. According to the rumor mill at MSNBC, the franchise’s producers want Crowe to replace the current 007 Pierce Brosnan, who reportedly wants over $20 million per picture plus creative control and would rather be doing other projects.

"I plan on doing one more Bond movie, I'm contractually bound to it, and after that we'll see," Brosnan told Zap2it during an interview for his latest movie The Tailor of Panama. "I love doing Bond, I mean, it's James Bond. But, sure, I'm ready to do other roles, too."

Given the heat he has now, Crowe would probably ask for at least as much money, if he were even interested. The gruff Gladiator is not known for being debonair, though he could recall the more manly tenure of Sean Connery, the first and most popular Bond. Also of note is that no previous Bond was a major star prior to being cast.

Being Bond made Brosnan, he was at best a supporting actor before. I think it'd be interesting to see Crow as 007. I never cared for Brosnan but he wasn't bad as Bond though.

I actually thought he would have been the natural choice (Pierce Brosnan) instead of Timothy Dalton a few years back. But I actually enjoyed the Remington Steele show a number of years ago. I don't see Crowe as Bond and am quite satisfied with Brosnan in the role, he is British enough and foppish enough for the part.

Much as I enjoyed Crowe in Gladiator, I just can't see him as 007.

I think he is too rugged compared to the other's who have played 007 in the past! Has the accent though!

He has the look at accent. Yeah, he is "rugged" as somebody here said, but if you put him in a tux, I'm sure he could get very suave and be quite the ladies man :)

Personally, I don't like Pierce Brosnan in the bond movies, the first (Goldeneye) was good, but the one after that sucked and I think there was even one after that which my friend said sucked. I just don't think he can act real well...

Sean Connery now.........he should play 007 once more just for old times sake. If you get a good story together, I can see it being good.

It would take a look at a Bond movie done with him at least once to make a good call, but I think he'd do OK...

They are screwing with the series, and making them huge action movies now. They weren't originally all about blowing up everything in sight. The last two bonds movies were more Die-Hard than 007, IMO.

Maybe that is why they want Crowe? Hell, they can get Ridley Scott to direct, and make it totally shallow.

When it comes to a Bond movie, there's nothing left to do - it's all been done before... I think Crowe would be great, because the early Bond (Connery) was just a thug who'd do the job, no matter the price.

I read on Dark Horizons that they had a few actors in mind for the next Bond (with names) and Mr. Crowe wasn't one of them...

I think I'm pretty much alone, but I really don't like Crowe that much. I dunno who would be better though. :)

I've been everywhere... I explained it in some thread somewhere I think but I don't remember where. Last week I was away in Northern Cal. This week I've had 5 AM wakeups for tennis, then school, then tennis again, getting home as late as 8 PM. Then homework and whatever else takes over. I hope I can spend some more time here but I'm totally swamped for now. :)
