p3 1.0 ghz or p4 1.3 is it worth the extra 60 buxs more and gts2 or radeon 64meg?????
Go for the P3-1G, you'll save some money and you can buy more RAM. With the P4-1.3G, you'll have to buy RDRAM and that's what'll kill you. A P3-1G w/ 256MB RAM is better than a P4-1.3G w/ 128MB RAM IMO.
As for video card, go for the Radeon 64MB, the 2D/3D quality, gaming speed, VIVO, DVD quality adds a lot of value to it.

A P3 at 1gig probably stomps all over the p4 at 1.3gig anyway. I think you'd need to get at least a 1.4gig maybe even 1.5 in order to out perform a p3 1gig. And you'd need a p4 running at like 2gig in order to justify going that route over the p3.

emm..... you guys saying p3 is outperform p4 ? may i know where did you get the info from ?
In my opinion, this is not a time to get p4 because a new type of p4 is coming out.And is totally doesnt support currently p4 mobo.So is a waste of getting a p4 right now.If you want, you can buy a p3 700 and overclock to 1 GHZ or just 933 MHZ. That will save you at least 10++ havent included tax.Well about video card i prefer GTS for better perfomance and better driver support. Radeon is a good card too.... but bad driver holding me back on this card.

Just go to review sites and find reviews of the P4. They should have benchmarks. Intel doubled the length of the pipeline on the P4 from 10 stage(p3) to 20 stage(p4). That hurts the performance of the chip severely. They did tho because it lets them ramp up the clock speed much easier. But a 1gig p3 should easily perform the same as or better than a 1.3 p4. and a 1.2gig Athlon performs on par in a lot of tests as a p4 1.5gig.

ALstonLoong: Go read some reviews on the P4 vs P3 1G... most of the time the P3-1G can beat a P4-1.4G, so the P4-1.3 will be no match for the P3-1G. And read from sites like anandtech.com or sharkyextreme.com, not INTEL's website!
And ATi having bad drivers was old news, they have mature and stable drivers in Win9x/ME now... they are only lacking in Windows2000. But if you are a gamer or average users, you'll probably go for Win9x/ME anyway. I've a 19" monitor and I'd perfer the Radeon over my MX now... the 2D in 1280x1024 and 1600x1200 is very disappointing right now with my GF2 MX.

I run win2k and have an AIW radeon. I can't complain. The performance is good in all games and the quality is great. Very few driver issues for me(whether it be speed or stability).

likewise with win2k and the aiw
also, current p4 mobos will be obsolete by the 4th quarter of this year, they are going to a new die and a new pin out - there will not be any resale market to speak of then - like the slot athlons now - once the p4 ships at 2 gigs+ it will be faster than the p3 but there's a lot of things intel is planning to do - like release a p4 mobo that uses sdram, etc.
i get extraordinary bang for the buck with a 2 year old bx board and a p3800@992running 2k -

Intel is also going to support DDR by the end of the year i think. I know other vendors (via comes to mind) are going to release DDR p4 mobo's by years end also. For right now i'd stay away from P4. It does get the bad press for being slower than a p3...but there are reasons behind the pipeline that will show its true colors later. Sometime early next year we should see some really smokin p4's.
I'm still running a good ol' 700e @ 933mhz 1.7v It's never choked on anything i've thrown at it and runs super fast for me. No need to upgrade till i can get dual Athlon SMP. Assuming the prices are good on the mobo side of things.

Just visit these link... P4 just sucks...

http://www2.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1360&p=24
Keep in mind that the P4-1.3Ghz will be even worst than the 1.4/1.5G tested there...
