How badly are you infected?

With the bragging rights, upgrading bug??? I have it pretty badly

I know my computer kicks ass and I love playin games on it, but its just not enough for me

It is you know, but I still want more. Here is my curren situation:

I owe my dad around $500 for computer parts,
Will soon upgrade to a lian-li PC60, and watercooling
By then will be needing a Radeon SE,
Will upgrade to a 20x writer as soon as they come out,
Need to get another 45gig 75GXP to do some magor raidage
Will upgrade to 512 megs of ram soon.

I don't know whats wrong with me!

Right now my computer runs just fine, but I always want the best fastest, most impressie one out there!!

what about you guys? Oh, btw, I know a year or so from now unless I hit the lottery this will all have to change cuz I'll be saving for my car.

seeigns how it costs mevery little to change my pc around I enjoy it. but if there was more $4 involved I would be much better.

oooohhh, sorry, heh... To tell the truth the last upgrade I did was to get an AIW Radeon for the old PIII500 - but I've had my eye on a jump to 1GHZ... So send me money and make my dream come true!

I used to have the same problem but I feel I am recovering. I still have the desire to upgrade but I want to be able to really see and feel the difference in real world use. In other words I want it to be a real world improvement not just a couple of extra 3Dmarks or becnchmark scores or frames per second in a game that already played silky smooth. Any upgrades I concider now have to add the capability to do something I could not do before or a huge performance gain or cost next to nothing.

Actually, as long as most of my games run okay and - MOST IMPORTANT - CounterStrike runs smoothly I'm happy. Right now that's the case with a P355@688 with a Geforce1 DDR.

I feel no burning need to upgrade yet. I MAY get a GF2 GTS when the price is right, but I would be very happy if I could stall until the next generation of cards due out for Xmas.

I predict the BIG thing will be Dx8 D3D hardware compliancy (which no card can do yet, but the next ATI and NVidia cards will). D3D has finally become a serious API with Dx8 and most game publishers are planning to make use of the advanced hardware features in upcoming games.

Both NVidia and ATI realize this and the race is on for the first TRUE Dx8 hardware card (ATI seems to have the lead at this point).

When full Dx8 hardware compliancy becomes a must, what this will do is pretty much render all the cards out today (even the GF3) obsolete. Oh, they'll still run on old cards, but those upcoming games will look like mud by comparison without Dx8 hardware support.

PERFORMANCE is no longer the big issue - cards are plenty fast. On top of that game programmers are learning a LOT of new tricks (like Level of Detail or LOD) to allow new games to scale well to older hardware. You FINALLY don't need the fastest and most expensive card available to enjoyably play new games - case in point, all games run just fine on a lowly (and currently rather inexpensive) Geforce MX, as long as you don't mind keeping the resolution at 1024x768 or less.

I think it's a GOOD THING. I'm tired of buying a new 3D card every 6 months. I've had this one for 7 months now and I wouldn't mind it at all if I could delay upgrading until the end of the year.

And no, I have NO intention of spending $550 on a friggin' Geforce3... people who spend that kind of money on a vid card either have money to burn or are on crack.

Yeah, I've had the urge to splurge on some new PC parts, but can't make up my mind as to what I want to buy. Things I've looked at are:

ASUS CUSL2-C motherboard
P3 that will do 900+ MHz
256 MB PC-133 RAM
GeForce 2 Pro card
Plexor CD-RW

I have no real need to upgrade, but I want to anyway.

Do we as gamers, need a reason to upgrade? I believe most of us upgrade so that we don't have to upgrade. Get it? mwahahaha...

No think about it. We upgrade now, so we don't have to upgrade later. Yet we end up upgrading later, so we don't have to upgrade even later?! It's an endless cycle.

Well, atleast as far as your wallet/wife will let you go

I upgrade when my current pc is running perfectly. No crashes, stable at its max speed. That is when I tear it apart, and start over with new parts.

I'm addicted......... but I try to make good deals for stuff and If I like a rig, it's not unusual for me to keep it intact for 10-12 months. I try to buy mobos that will be able to handle at least one cpu upgrade, maybe two. I do upgrades and system builds out of my house for peeps and usually the profit from that goes into new hdware for me. The two rigs I have now I like quite a bit so I'll be stickin' with these 2 for awhile.

I used to be the same way. But for some reason I haven't had the bug in the last couple of months, which is VERY odd for me. I guess a tight pocket book helps with that, but I don't fin dmy self lusting over computer parts right now. I'm surprisingly content with my 600E (stock), 30GB RAID array, 384MB RAM, and GTS under Win2k. Its wierd....

Then again, I have found myself peering at the Crutchfield catalog and other stereo websites lately. Perhaps my focus is shifting to the ever evolving and (eegads!) more expensive field of home theater.

I am itching to upgrade my 4.3gig hd, and voodoo3 vid card. the rest of my specs i am alright with. they are a p3b-f mobo, and p3 733 cpu(both from nexus) 256megs ram, the ram does 150 2-2-2, and a sb-live value, 32x cdrom, 4x2x24 burner. the only other thing I would like to upgrade to is a 1.2gig tbird.

Hey spec.. I think you'd see a more feasable performance increase if you upgraded your hdd to scsi or an IBM 75gxp ide and maybe that video card to a radeon. those two are bottle necking your system and you could upgrade to a 5 gig tbird and it still would bottle neck at those two.

I think its perfectly normal to rip apart my systems every 2 months and change and add new stuff in fact I just installed a 1 gig p3 cpu and sold off a 733 and while thats not a huge performance upgrade it sure made me feel good
