Hope some of the other boards take the hint too. Its very different dealing with an individual as opposed to a "salesman".

Frost, over at Anandtech for the last week it's been like a Computer Fair with certain Individuals setting uo shop offering multiple systems with all sorts of options. It would also be easy for some Shiester to unload or "Fence" his stolen merchandise at Forums like these. Many of these "traders" sell stuff but they never buy anything at these Forums

It makes perfect sense to me. I would rather miss out on a good deal where maybe someone got something in bulk quantities and will save me $20, than risk loosing $150 because the person turns out to be a flake.(I know there are good traders reselers out there that I've dealt with b4, but others may not be so kind as to actually diliver thier part of the deal, and when alot of people are ripped-off at the same time, there is less of a chance that everybody will get thier stuff back.) So I totally support this measure to keep trading safe.

yea the people who were selling the computers with the stuff like

(upgrade to 80 gig hard drive add $xxx)

people took it a little far. I mean there are guys like compuwiz and untamo, and then these guys who have taken it to computer show levels.

Anandtech is kinda like a swapmeet i used to go to , that they have at TRW every month. Like random people would sell junk, and stores would be there too and it was all free to get in and buy there. Much better than computer show, you got so much more variety .

is this thread going to get locked for excessive bumping ?

I think this is a good idea too. of course what I think is of no concern anyway.

There are lots of issues here, but I am not sure about legal liability for the board. A newspaper is not responsible for the conduct of its advertisers and is not responsible for collecting sales or other taxes due when a transaction occurs as a result of an ad or a listing.

If, as a community, we generally agree this a good thing, then so be it. I hate to see someone like Bonkers banned from this board, but if I don't like it I can go somewhere else.

I just wonder where we draw the line. Is it when someone regularly buys items items for resale or hops on a deal once in a while and sells extras to finance his own upgrade?
Carried to its logical conclusion, this new policy would result in this board being a great place to buy 4 mb Virge cards and little else. I find it impossible to imagine that any active trader at AGN or this board has never bought an item just to resell it. After all, when it still made sense to do it, lots of good traders used to throw systems together and sell them. They enjoyed it, made a little profit and provided great products.

Mostly I just don't understand the rationale. Certainly, nobody wants to see a repeat of the "Biohazard" fiasco multiplied tenfold. But stuff happens. Sadly, good traders go bad, well intentioned deals get screwed up, etc.
Other than the numbers of people involved, what is the difference between a private trader and someone who does it on a larger scale? Someone got a reseller's license? More power to em, if they are honest. Hell, if someone is out for blood they will list their stuff on flea bay and let the less price-enlightened bid their stuff up.

I say a good trader is a good trader. I don't want this board spammed up by dealers, but I wonder how real a fear that is. If you were a dealer, who would you want to sell to - the unwashed masses who would pay Comp USA prices or a bunch of crazed hardware addicts who know the prevailing market prices on items down to the last dollar?
