I wish they would make it the standard to put both Widescreen and Standard on DVD's. Since it will probably be awhile before I invest in a Widescreen TV, I think it is the best option a DVD can have! And I know it still discourages people from buying DVD because they don't like watching Widescreen format!

I would like to see this happen!

I dont have a wide screen tv. having a dvd that has wide and standuard on it are fine and all but I never watch the standuard verson. I dont know what size tv's you guys have but i had a 25" and a 27" up until a month ago when I got my 36" tv and I never had a prob watching the wide screen and the black areas never bothered me. I would always prefer to have the Full movie then the studio deciding what parts are less important then others when they crop it.

I just got a 36" myself and the "black bars" aren't so bad, but they suck on a 27". My next TV will be a HDTV Widescreen, but until then I'm happy with what I have. But as to the original thought, people _should_ have the option to buy whatever version they want...

I have a 36" TV, but I never watch standard screen if I can help it. I will not buy a DVD if it doesn't come in widescreen. I havn't found one yet that wasn't.

I've always hated pan and scan but since it fills up a normal TV screen many still prefer that. My brother refuses to watch any movie in wide screen because they don't fill up the whole screen and he despises those bars. And he has a 60" TV too. I've explained to him many times why widescreen is better but he doesn't care. But I do agree DVD's should have both so people have a choice of what they prefer.
