My phone is no slouch - its a Moto-x gen 3 - but it's been sluggish as hell lately. I was concerned it was a RAM or flash memory issue.
Remembering I had similar issue with my old phone I uninstalled Swiftkey and it's like night and day. I was even having lag when the keyboard WASN'T displayed, so I wonder if it's a memory leak.
Checked the forums and many people complaining about this. Seems you can fix it by clearing the app's data, so it's something that just gets worse over timr.
I'll just stick with the default Google keyboard. It's gotten much better.

FYI Swiftkey was also responsible for bad lag in google calendar app month view (see my other post).

I've never really had issues with the Google keyboard. Works really nice for me.
