i've tried the fop32 and 38 - both cool well but they have those chip killer clamps - as i recall the abit has very little clearance on the edges - i'd go with an alpha if it fits of, the clamps are easy or a high end taisol - if the news threads come back today check some of the socket a revues posted there - most of the reviews address whether the hsf fit on certain socket a mobos - i ended up with a chipped duron from the fop 38 - these chips are very fragile - not sure that the orbs generate enough cooling to handle these chips

Taisol

Many people have recommended the Taisol CGK742092. This also seems to be AMD approved. Do you know anything about this HSF? I sure don't. Where can I find some reviews for the HSF/Sockets?

Back in Nov.2000 Anand did a socket-A and socket-370 cooler roundup which can be found here.

I went with the Alpha PAL6035 Ultra Kit from 2CoolTek.

I went with the Alpha because I have had good experience with thier coolers in the past.I have seen messages posted at AT about the FOP38's not being flat on the bottom and needed to be lapped.

The HedgeHog looks sweet but its expensive.

BTW the Delta 60mm fan is a loud mofo.

i recommend 2cool as well - i buy all my serious cooling stuff there - i broke a clip on my fop38 and he just shot me out a new one - i think that the taisols are just beginning to be sold retail - check over at the fs/ft at anands - there was a huge thread about group buys with a link to the taisol website last fall

I am ignorant when it comes to the tech issues of a HSF. The Taisol can be purchased directly from their web site so it's not an issue to me. I know nothing about HSF's SO when you say the Alpha PAL 6035 ot the Taisol CGK 742092 I go to a website look at them and say "Oh, that looks cool." no pun intended. I really am relying on the information here to guide me. So thanks for the threads and keep threading and educating me.

Well the link to that roundup in my first reply is a long read but might help you make a better informed purchasing decision.

basically, that tbird, when overclocked :) will generate a tremendous amount of heat, and the heat can build up very quickly under load. a 1 gig tbird with no fan will last about 30 seconds. you need a real high end fan like the ones mentioned so that it can dissipate the heat quickly when the cpu goes under load - otherwise you can get heat spike while the fan is trying to catch up which can cause instability or even damage to the cpu - that's why spending the extra 10 bucks is important. plus, you can always resell the highend fhs combos easil :)

Which one would you go with the Taisol ot the Alpha Pal? I don't plan on OC this set up, at least I say that now! HA ha ha ha! I still don't see the real benefit, I know it will run faster but how will I really see it in the apps that I run? But back to the question; Taisol of Alpha?
