Decisions - Video Card Upgrade

Post by Err »

I recently purchased an EVGA 980 FTW video card. I'm within my 90 day purchase (5 days left) to use their step up program. I can get a 1080 ACX 3.0 card for the cost of shipping both ways. However, I'm reluctant to do so because I really don't need a faster card. I'm not pushing anything above 1080/60 fps and I have no plans for VR. I'm not sure the hassle and waiting are for a 25% performance increase. What would you do?

I would be awfully tempted to get the 1080, basically for small change. I went from a 970 to the 1080 and it is a lot faster. You would also be future proofed if you want to go up to 1440 or run multis or whatever. If you have something you can slap in for the meantime, I'd say go for it.

My vote: go for the 1080. Get the best you can get now and you delay the next upgrade as long as possible.

For such a low price, do it. Worth the little hassle for huge reward later on.

Thanks all. It's probably going to cost ~$50 when I pay shipping.

A friend at work lent me a spare card so now I get to play the waiting game. As of today, there's no stock on the 1080 series cards.
