Auto companies do that all the time and have for years. Back in the '80s, Lexus bought cars from their potential competitors like MB, etc to dissect them. In the 90s Ford bought Volvo, Jag and others not only to own, sell them but to use their technology. I know that other companies do that as well.

Also, as for spending a mere $200K, when new models come out there are proto types made that are driven by company people and then used for training in manufacture training classes. These cars can't be titled either so after they serve their purposes, they're crushed. Hundreds of thousands of $$$s....crushed and annually by most, if not all auto manufacturers. No, they can't just sell them cheaply or give them to employees either, just destroy them. Sad but true.

this sis so sad but true -lot of times there just a small change made. but they dont want these out in the general public due to legal problems if something should go wrong later. once had a boss who parent worked at gm .he drove a chevy Monty carlo that had the climate control located on the window pillar . was a small rotating knob you just dial up or down with degrees on it. never seen a car equipped like that before. larry said his dad got it as a prep car and it should of never been sold but slip though the cracks .
