Good site for ordering ammo

Post by FlyingPenguin »

Needed to stock up on some ammo after my major target practice session the other day, and a friend of mine told me about Ammoman.com.

They shipped fast. Was expecting to pay through the nose for 30-30 ammo, but it was quite reasonable.

I have been using Cheaper Than Dirt

Is it sad that I can buy 223 for about the same price as 22LR? That 22 conversion for my AR is seeming like a waste of money now.

I go to slickguns.com and find the current best deals. Though I will say that I frequent sportsmansguide.com, palmettostatearmory.com, & http://www.aimsurplus.com the most.

i picked up a lot of 9 and 22 a year or so ago during the "shortage". i ended up buying too much (walmart trips and a few online shops) and would like to get rid of some of it now...i don't get to the range enough to justify having it sitting here. if you're near 33308 and want some at original cost to me, lmk.

i do remember on many of the gun forums, there were lists of "sellers to boycott" after the shortage was over, due to them price gouging. i don't remember off the top of my head who they were, but some were pretty bad ($1/round for 9mm?!?), etc.

Since we are talking ammo here, I have a question: I have an older 12 gauge pump shot gun that my father-in-law gave me. The last time I took it out shooting, some of the shells would get jammed when reloading a new round. Someone told me that I needed to get the shorter type of 12 gauge rounds, because the ones I was using were slightly too long causing it to jam when reloading.

What do I look for when ordering for the shorter round?

There's different length shells. Common are 3" and 2-3/4".
Just look at what you're using now and go a little shorter.

Well there's 12 gauge 2-3/4" which are called "magnum" and is what I buy. It's pretty much the standard size now. I assume that you've been buying is the longer 3" or 3-1/2" shells?

They also recently started making a "mini-shell" which are 1-3/4" long which are intended to give you a higher ammo capacity. They are designed to work with the Winchester 1300 pump, and some specialty tactical shotguns, and may not cycle without jamming in other pump shotguns without modification.
