FYI, it's $680-ish after $30-ish in shipping and $50-ish in tax (if applicable—I'm in TX and had to pay sales tax, but Ken is in MA and didn't get hit with sales tax).
My order came to $680.89. So for anyone having to pay tax, it's not a $600 product—it's essentially an almost-$700 product.

I would be very interested to hear from anyone using one and what they're playing with it. Only usecase I can imagine is Elite Dangerous. I can't imagine playing an FPS with it.

The problem with VR is lack of content right now. Most of the games I've heard about are no more than tech demos. I've heard the POV porn is interesting but I don't have a headset to try it. I'd like to see VR take off. It would be nice to have the illusion of a big monitor with having a big monitor on your desk. I really want to see VR repair manuals.

Ok, ran the compatibility test, and I pass on all hardware (no surprise given my specs). I failed on the OS test, however, because I'm still running Win8 on this gaming PC and minimum requirement is 8.1.
I've got no reason to upgrade until I need to. I'm perfectly happy with the rock solid stability of this gaming rig, and it's not used for anything but gaming.
Core i5-4670, 16gb, GTX 980

While that card is the minimum, I think it's going to struggle on some games at that resolution and framerate.FlyingPenguin wrote:Well, you're running 2160x1200 at 90hz, so yeah, you need a beefy vid card. I think a GTX970 is the minimum on the Geforce side.
I found the recommended requirements. Correct me if I'm wrong but I didn't think HDMI 1.3 could do 90Hz at 2160x1200.
For the full Rift experience, we recommend the following system:
Video Card NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD R9 290 equivalent or greater
CPU Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater
Memory 8GB+ RAM
Video Output Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output
USB Ports 3x USB 3.0 ports plus 1x USB 2.0 port
OS Windows 7 SP1 64 bit or newer
While the price is more than I would want to spend, if the hardware is as good as they claim, I understand it. The main reason I am not buying one right now is that Gen1 is always such a gamble. Almost every product I have purchased that was Gen1 was a turd, or flopped.
Same with the Vive. While I would love to have a VR setup, I just cant see myself spending 900 (my guesstimate for the Vive) for something thats likely going to underperform in the next 12-18 months and need to be replaced.

It will be interesting to see the reviews. I have a 970 which pushes 2560x1440 ok - but no way it will push something like Witcher3 @ 90 fps with higher settings. I have read that the nausea thing is very dependent and a clean smooth framerate. I'm guessing that a 980 TI is probably what will work best. It will be interesting to see what happens with DX12 or whatever, since that may be a factor in how much video horsepower you need.
As for me, not sure if my eyes will cut it, since I have plastic lenses now after cataract surgery. I see distance 20/20 but you can't really change the focus like you can with OEM eyes. Need glasses for reading and computer.
Be interesting to see how it all plays out.
BTW if you google hololens and pron, you can get lots of membership offers

I haven't read about how they are handling people with reading glasses. I do see some kind of slider in the photos that I suspect changes the focal range.
