“Empty” Epson ink cartridges are still 20 percent full

And you think YOUR ink cartridges are expensive? This is a commercial quality printer where the cartridges costs $2500 a piece! You can't blame these guys for being upset that the printer tells them the cartridge is empty when they're still 15 - 20% full.

The high-end Epson 9900 printer, which retails for around £3,000 ($5,000), reports that ink cartridges are empty even when they are still about 15-20 percent full. This behaviour is particularly egregious as a set of 700ml ink cartridges for the Epson 9900 printer comes in at around £2,500—so, users are being forced to replace the cartridges when there's still about £500 of ink available.

even Epson home cartage printer show empty and there ink left in them .I know I well get a report saying out of ink and go and swap the cartage and here ink swashing in them old cartage at times. not tried shaking it and reinstalling and if the unit changes the report or prints do. why I haven't tried to shake and reset in place when I hear the sound of ink . in part is I'm afraid i'll mess up the printer head.

did some checking on my workforce unit none avail , guess my cartages have self districting computer chips on the cartages !

Yep on the printer companies. My wife has a decent HP all in one. Yesterday she gets error message which was something like "printer or cartridges broken." Did all the usual things, reset cartridges, etc. Downloaded the manual and it has diagrams on removing the print head, "carefully do this, but be very careful not to bump ... " She found one that uses the same cartridges on sale, it's on the way.

BTW HP just announced that is was splitting it's printer and enterprise divisions, and laying off 30k people mostly in the enterprise division. If you read the fine print in their announcement, they are actually just offshoring most of those jobs. Why pay americans when they can get asians to work for $11/day.

I don't even bother owning a color printer. I've had this Brother HL-5250DN (B&W laser) 8-10 years now. If I need color, which is rare, I'll take it somewhere and pay to get printed in color.

I have a Lexmark X543 color laser I bought cheap a few years ago. My wife prints a ton of stuff, a lot of it in color, and after buying 2 sets of toner carts in 6 months I said it (at 240 bucks a set), and ordered a bulk pile of chips from China (40 sets, 45 bucks) and bulk toner (400 bucks, 4kg of toner). By my current estimates, I have enough chips and toner to last 8 years or so.

After the second set when I started refilling, I had to empty out the stock toner so the colors didnt mix slightly and remained consistent, and there was a good 15% toner left in the cart.

I don't use color and have an 8 yr old HP Laserjet that keep on ticking. I have an unused Canon BW laser NIB that I picked up online for $50 as a backup.
