They won't admit there is a problem and will keep jerking you around until you get rid of the car. The Lemon Laws are meant to keep this crap from happening but vary state by state.

Lemon laws only apply to newer cars, not anything like an older Saturn. GM and most other domestics (many imports too) have had trans problems (and other major, costly problems) with their cars for decades. It's nothing new. If the parts fail under warranty, you don't pay but out of warranty, you're SOL. No manufacturer is going to publically admit that their stuff is junk or just offer help w/o a forced recall. Your choices are fix or sell, that's it.
Almost every car has some sort of known problems but some are better than others.

Part of the reason I prefer manual transmissions.

For some reason, I've always had bad luck with GM in general. I took a chance and bought a 2000 Ford F-150 Crew Cab, and it's been the best purchase. I've only had to replace 2 coil packs, alternator, and the dryer for the AC. The truck has 140,000 on the clock.
The wife likes Honda's. We currently have 2: a 2005 Honda Accord LX we bought brand new, and a 2013 Honda CRV AWD.
I did have a 1996 C4 Corvette which was a nice car when it worked, but it was the little things that would go out on the car, and replacement parts were not available (i.e. no longer made by GM or anyone else). At times, I had to look at junk yards for a part, and they you add the "Corvette tax" on top of that. Car would also drip transmission oil after driving it. Not much - about 2-3 drops. Would I get another one? Why yes LOL.
