And now Samsung seems to be grudgingly admitting that the problem also affects non-EVO versions. I have two pure 840s that are definitely showing symptoms.

Looks like this isn't over. I'll need to run HDTach on my drives and see how they're doing:

Should affect all 840 EVOs. The last firmware update was bundled with a utility that fixed the slow memory cells. Scroll down past the firmwares. It's called something like the EVO 840 restoration tool. It installs the last firmware that supposedly fixed the issue, and then does something to the drive (probably rewrites all the cells). Takes a half hour.
You might have a recent one that has the latest firmware installed from the factory.

New firmware is now available to tech journalist sites for testing. Should be released to the public by the end of April. PVPer ran some tests and it seems to work. Sounds like a kludge though - they're going to have the drive basically re-write all the cells once a week during idle to refresh the cells.

The new Samsung Magician 4.6 is out. You CANNOT upgrade from the old version of Magician. You must manually download it from here:
http://www.samsung.com/global/business/ ... loads.html
The new version of Magician will then install the new firmware. There is also an Advance Performance Tool in Magician that will force a refresh of all the memory cells if you don't want to wait for it to happen in the background.
Seems to work for me. Improved performance on my 1TB drive. Time will tell if it stays that way.

I got the new magician and it seemed to speed stuff up. Set it for max life, but oddly EliteDangerous got zapped. It would go to the login and then the play screen, but the play screen would not stay up until I turned it off. Thargoids?
