Using a router to block a modem

Post by FlyingPenguin »

Most cable modems have a control panel that can be accessed via the IP 192.168.100.1

It's a good idea to change the password on your modem so it's not using the factory default.

Unfortunately some modems - specifically Motorola modems - allow access to this control panel without a password. A malicious script running on your PC could repeatedly reset or reboot the modem. The author of this article explains how to use IP filtering on your router to block access to the modem.
