HAHA Wvjohn that 3 screen setup is mine! Note the FSU drink coaster on the bottom right ;)

And yeah it looks fantastic with my new rig. Had to readjust the colors with it, but it's pretty close now. Not that hot mess of different colors up there.

Once I've seen a decent big screen 4k monitor with a good refresh rate, I'll ditch the 3 monitor setup and go with that. But for now (minus the bezels) this rocks!

As for the game, I've got a Type 7, a cobra and a viper. Trying to do Empire missions so I can get an Imperial Clipper. Tough to make money fighting, I've made all my cash trading and smuggling.

I'm based out of ETA Draconis and I'm usually around there or my newly discovered 1900-ish credit per ton trade route in Siddha --> CD-37 641. 5.something light years apart, stations are like 130Ls and 74 Ls from the nav point. Made a few million in no time there yesterday. Only interdicted twice in LOTS of trips.

Awesome, I'm finally figuring this game out. I've got kitted out Cobra, almost finished Asp, and an Adder in the permanent parking lot at Hutton :) I'm currenty grinding rares in my Asp.

There is an awesome FB group - Elite: Dangerous Community, and we just started a subgroup EDS : Space Truckers :) . Group is mature, friendly and very helpful.

Started playing last night. All my years of flight sims helped. I had no trouble taking off or landing. Was able to match the rotation of the stations. I'm enjoying all the details.

It is, as FP said, very intimidating, as there's A LOT of keyboard commands (I've mapped many of the popular ones to plethora of buttons on my throttle). The hardest part for me is travelling to other places. I tend to overshoot and have to turn around.

I have to say, they REALLY put some time & work into the joystick controls and the options you have. I'm mapping a button combination that works for me so I don't have to touch the keyboard unless necessary. An example of their support for sticks is that I don't like when a game uses the full range for forward and backward, forcing you to always find the sweet spot on the throttle for idle. You can change that so now my throttle is exclusively for power and a quick tap of a button on the throttle, toggles between forward and reverse. I like!

Now I just need to figure out trade routes and what items I can haul. I'm just trying to earn some cash so I can get a better ship eventually, if I can even figure out where to buy them. LOL

I've been playing Eve since like 2008 and this is very involved but Eve's market is much easier to work with. I hope they take some aspects of Eve and incorporate that into Elite.

Also, I have to throw a bone to CH Products. After some 10+ years, their stick & throttle are still going strong and work to this day. Nothing to install, just works, allowing me to map a ton of options at my fingertips:

If you're on FB, join the Elite Dangerous community - it's actually a mature, funny group with lots of good info on everything. In the files sections there are lots of trade routes.

Thrudds is one of the better trade databases. http://www.elitetradingtool.co.uk/

You can just play in solo until you get comfortable. Some of the traders are posting that they are staying in solo when running high value rares. There are some haxors in the game with shields that won't go below a certain percentage.

Once you've got things figured out a little bit, I'd be happy to drop some cargo for you to scoop + sell so that you don't have to do too much grinding just to get a decent started ship like a cobra. You can set up a private group to do that, but I've never done it.

Almost all the high tech stations sell ships + upgrades, but it is variable.

Mr FSU is the go to man on combat, he be some kinda warlord :)

FSU is just feeding his need to be bad online, since he's Mr Good in RL.

LOL!

I'm "meh" with the combat, but I've got the trading thing down. I've continued to do that route I posted above. It's a bit of a hike to get there, but WELL WELL worth it. I just bought a Python tonight with the money I've made there :)

Some tips for you Los:

I was on "open" until I had the means to defend myself from the NPC pirates. Then I switched to "solo" play after I got a type 6 full of gold blown to bits by a doucheface CMDR. LOL so you have to choose which is better for you. NO matter what, don't ever leave the station without enough money for insurance! There's no cargo insurance, so that will be lost if you get blown up, but it would suck to go back to a sidey after you've gotten some $ for a decent ship or 2.

As for approaching planets, press the button assigned to "75% throttle" (C by default I think) when it says you're at about 6-7 seconds away. Then don't touch the throttle. It'll maintain the optimal speed for the approach and won't overshoot you.

Definitely join that FB group. It's where I've learned everything I know. If you've got some spare time, go back a few weeks and check out some of the stuff posted. Great info.

Python envy. What are you trading on that route?

Beryllium in one port (forget which) yields 1300-1450cr per ton profit at other port and return trip with Imperial Slaves yields 500-640cr on the way back. 5.65ly jump and stations are 38 and like 74ls away from jump point. Less than 10 min round trip time. In my T7 I was getting roughly 420k per round trip (216t of cargo). Station names escape me but use those distances as a guide. One is called like blaawd or something ridiculous like that. Other one starts with a T. I'll post here again when I get back into the game and see them.

I JUST got my Python last night right before bed... It has 200 or 208 cargo don't remember, but need to find outfitter with 32t cargo rack to replace a 16. It's a boatload of $ to upgrade everything so maybe I should have saved up for a T9 to make more per trip... Anyway, I'll post more about the Python when I've had a chance to mess around with her a bit!

They are posting pics of the new ships in the FB group. Shiny. And the "selfie cam" (external) is the bomb. A couple of people have posted saying that the wings group thing works well and someone peeked at the code and it looks like there may be tradtional pvp - capture the star system, etc. in 1.3 :)

Welcome aboard Drex! Lots to learn. If you're on the facebooks look up that Elite Dangerous Community. Good info there.

As for me and my Python... Ok this thing is a GAS GUZZLER. Uses many many more times the fuel a T7 uses. Upgrades are a lot of $. A LOT. And it took me a few upgrades to get close to how my mostly A-spec T7 handled. Big advantage is that the Python is a "medium" sized ship and I can land on platforms again. There's a platform right by one of the stations I mentioned in the trade route above and the prices are about the same. Cuts a couple of mins off the trade route. To me, that makes it worth the upgrade. Not to mention it takes about 15 secs (if that) to kill an Eagle and not much longer for a cobra.

However if you're going to keep on trading you're better off holding out for a T9 or waiting to see how much one of those new fancy ships are...

So I played for about an hour this morning before work. and I finally got popped in my newb ship (no cargo) by what I'm assuming was an NPC since I was playing in solo mode.

I really need to find a route that works in a newb ship for now until I've got enough for the next ship. My concern is getting a new ship and getting popped quick like what happened this morning.
