Ok, got up and running in this. did 3 or 4 lessons. never seen so many friggin buttons and controls, but I'm slowly getting there. Really cool so far, but looks to be a high learning curve for a while until I get the controls figured out.
My first landing in a station was a sight to behold with be backing around the landing pad in reverse, while the station was yelling at me. glad no one could see me
Theoretically, yes, but right now the pop density is pretty low. There are also established factions - Federation, etc. - and you need to keep an eye on your faction when approaching certain places. From what I can tell you can be on 3 tracks which are swappable depending on what ship you have - trader, bandit/bandit hunter, explorer/miner. You can jump someone and steal their cargo, then you get a bounty on you, and someone can kill you for the bounty, etc. Still not real clear to me. Still trying to learn to fly my beginner ship. I've never really done flight sims before so probably looking at 20-30 hrs to get the basics down.
I've only twiddled around in solo player mode trying to get the feel for the controls, and trying to come up with the best configuration for the keyboard and game pad.
Don't feel bad, John, I looked like a dork on my first space station landing. I got so careless inside that they opened fire on me.

Nice find! Might need to keep that handy on my tablet.

So I'm trying to do a mission to xyz, which turns out to be orbiting close to a sun, even with full shields on my newbie-mobile, my ship melts . There is a good reason that system is unexplored. I am really enjoying the scale of this game.
I also picked up an account that has a type 7 and the guy gave me his trade route cycle for rares. Going to take me a while to get up to speed with that, but then I'll have some credits to spread around for people here if they need them. Even though you can't transfer credits in game between accounts, I figured somebody out there was probably selling credits/accounts and found a decent place. The most elegant method is someone runs up a high bounty, then you meet them in a private game and zap them. People also will meet you and dump platinum or whatever for you to scoop and sell. Gotta love the marketplace in these games.
I've seen pics of some of the rigs that Oculus people are using - triple screens for regular and Captain Kirk's chair with built in joystick/hota for the full monty,
Spent the morning do rare runs in my Cobra which is now almost up to spec. Still playing solo, but that's fine. At least I can kill interdictors now. Game's got me pretty hooked. I'm compiling resource links and there's a boatload of stuff out there.
