Citrix vs VMware VDI (Virt Desktops)

Post by Losbot »

We are looking at going to VDI (virtual desktops) and of course every vendor touts that their suggestion is better. One of them is telling me to just re-do our Citrix environment but I'm personally thinking that's not going to solve anything for us.

Any of you happen to be using VMware's Horizon View for virtual desktops? If not, what about Citrix's XenDesktop?

Most of the stuff online tends to be a little biased and I'd like to find some good info. I'm trying to find out from those who actually have something in place.

I want my users to have the exact same desktop no matter where the hell they are and I need devices connected via USB to work for them.

Thanks

i'm heavy on VMware, but haven't done VDI yet. my last company didn't do it, but all i keep hearing is it's all about the storage I/O and having the backend to support it. gut instinct pushes me to VMware's solution, but i also haven't heard bad things about Citrix.

do you have a tech partner you work with that can provide demo labs and comparisons?

Yeah. I'm starting to tinker with it a little but of course each vendor wants to push whatever they're most comfortable with.
