Elite Dangerous - Asteroid Mining

Post by FlyingPenguin »

I have such fond memories of the original Elite from the mid-80s. I may buy this game after it's released next week.

A little bit of game video:

Yeah, first Elite was my first "open" space game and I loved it. This one looks a tad slow, but I hope it captures the spirit of the game and will likely buy it too. Scott's been doing tons of videos for it.

So its looking like it's going to be a FPS version of EVE?

Interesting, I haven't played an open space game since the '90s.

It's out now - is a joystick required? looks like an interesting game from the exploration point of view - which is what I mostly do in MMOs anyway

Yeah, I bought it, but I haven't posted any reviews.

Haven't had much time to play with it. The graphics ARE stunning, and the open world feel is incredible, but it's very intimidating.

There's a bazillion keyboard commands, and I had to scour the Internet for some user made keyboard templates. Probably end up making my own since I needed to customize some of the keys.

The in-game tutorials don't teach you much. They just drop you in a situation (on approach to space station for landing) and you're pretty much on your own with just some mentions of what keys to use. Landing (and taking off) from a space station involves some piloting skillz. It does greatly help that they have a bunch of tutorials on Youtube.

I flew around a bit, aimlessly, just to enjoy the show, but I haven't tried to do any trading yet. Maybe during the New Years holiday I'll just take a day and play with it.

Right now I'm still engrossed in COD Advanced Warfare multiplayer, and trying to finish Wolfenstein The New Order.

They had major issues with trade transactions over the holiday due to server issues.

This is why I have no desire to playing online (also I don't need to deal with human pirates).

I am one of the many people that are upset the game isn't 100% offline in solo mode. Sadly, very few games have a completely offline mode anymore.

I've gotten into this game since I got it about a month ago. There's a good Facebook group called Elite :D angerous Community that's really helped me along the way.

Basically there's 3 ways to make credits... Trading (how I made my scratch), bounty hunting/pirating and exploration. Exploration makes the least amount of credits but is rewarding in and of itself.

If anyone needs a hand in the game, let me know, I'd be happy to help!
