Its etched into the case. However, I used to work with Tony and Im willing to bet they had to pull both axles out to get the transmission out. Since the axle nut is what keeps the wheel bearing pre-loaded, I wouldnt be surprised if they either did not tighten it up enough, or over tightened it and now the wheel bearing is smoked. Transmissions dont hum normally. They may whine a little in 1/2/4th gear but thats just the planetary gears not having a perfect mesh and will eventually quiet up unless one of the thrust washers/torrington bearings, is coming apart.

will this nightmare ever end ?
trans was reworked again in the last 5 or 6 days .
they GM dealer had to replace a gear and bearing in it. also a front wheel bearing. today I drive the car and hear a bearing grinding every time I make a right turn. setup a new appointment with the deal for Thursday to have it inspected again.im wondering if the wrong transmission was installed or if the drive axles maybe to short for some odd reason. I keep you all posted. im at wits end and like to find a lawyer to talk to this is so much bull shit. also been very costly and the car only has 66 thousand miles on it.

the Last time I was Talking to myself . I got into such a heated argument . that is why I swore I never talk to that guy again. you know what it worked now no buddy talking to me.

That sucks. They should've replaced the bearings when they pulled the axles. They've screwed something up because you shouldn't have a bearing and gear go out on a new crate transmission. Key Keeper mentioned the axle nuts earlier. I wonder if they tried reusing the old ones rather than using new ones. I'm not sure on GMs but I know they you have to replace them on Chryslers if you remove them.
I hope you get this squared away soon.

From my car dealer experiences, I'm going to bet that your vehicle was not given to a tech with much experience and thus he probably botched the job, plus perhaps you got a poorly rebuilt trans by a another place that also didn't do quality work.
So now, the dealer is probably trying to figure out how they're going to fix your vehicle without losing too much money (assuming the installer F'ed it up). Sucks but I've seen it happen.

Now they are saying the sound im hearing is a brakes clip that rusty and the fix is a $1991the.00 plus tax fix . The disk pads are fine just this clip is the problem. And to fix it I need to a front break job. I said pass and left the dealer this morning.

$1991.00 for a brake job?
The brakes (and hardware) were OK when you initially brought them the car OR they would have told you otherwise from the beginning. Today, all dealers fill out check lists with brake and tire measurements when the car is initially looked at, ESPECIALLY with a major job like a trans replacement.
Took them days to figure that out too?
You need to talk to the service manager and if that doesn't get things resolved, go to the general manager (his boss).

Do they mean the anti rattle clips? The parts should cost $12 tops with about an hour's labor at most. That's a ridiculous amount of money for a brake job. As EvilHorace said, you need to go higher up the chain. This is something you could fix yourself but I'd be pushing them to fix something they broke too.renovation wrote:Now they are saying the sound im hearing is a brakes clip that rusty and the fix is a $1991the.00 plus tax fix . "CERTA" is what they call crate transmissions from GM. its a certified rebuilt transmission that in all honesty, is actually a hell of a lot better than a brand new one. They have some pretty elaborate testing equipment used by their rebuild facility. I agree, the tech that did the job either rushed it and half @$$ed it or just lacked experience. Grinding when you turn one way or the other is a clear sign of a bad wheel bearing.....
As for the axle nuts, Ive reused them a kazzilion times with no issues. As long as you use good locktite and tighten them properly, they are fine. Chrysler uses a flat type axle nut with a 12 point locking plate and a cotter pin so they can also be reused a lot. Later model mopar may use the compression type though. The best solution is to take it to another dealer and see what they say.

11 years ago I replaced the tranny in my old 93 GMC Suburban with a GM crate tranny. Never regretted it. My wife had badly abused the original tranny on that truck, and eventually it refused to go into the highest gear.
Had it done at a local tranny place (family owned) that was recommended and asked for two quotes: a quote for them to rebuild it and one for a GM crate tranny and labor to install. Crate tranny was maybe $600 more expensive at the time, but it was worth it. Had a 3 year GM warranty on the replacement tranny even though not installed at the dealer.
The tranny shop owner REALLY wanted me to let him rebuild it because he makes more on the labor, but I was resolute on getting a GM crate tranny. I just felt better having a tranny specialist do it, instead of the dealer. These guys work on trannies all day long, and I like dealing with local family owned businesses.
That truck lasted so long, I ALMOST dropped a crate engine it it last year, but wound up giving it to friend and picked up a used 2013 Suburban in mint condition for a great price. It had a lot of mileage on it (30K in a year) but it was in beautiful condition, and my mechanic said that it was like new under the hood and under the chassis.
We use it as a work truck around the ranch, and for hauling the trailer, and as a spare vehicle (I use it for road trips to Miami instead of my Camry), so it's not going to accrue much mileage. Mostly sits in the pole barn with a trickle charger on it until needed.
