Ready boot stopped due to the following error: 0xC000188

Post by darcy »

I went to power up my laptop a little while ago ( battery is in, but i was running on power adaptor ); the power button lit up, but nothing powered up.

i didn't know what to do, so all i did was remove all cables, and then removed and reinserted the battery, along with the cables.

Then it powered up, and i immediately looked in Event Viewer and found this:

"Ready boot stopped due to the following error: 0xC000188".

i googled, and found the same "solution" on several sites; here's one site:

http://raptor.hk/solve-readyboot-error-0xc0000188/

1. Login to an Administrator account
2. Press Win + R to call out “Run”
3. Type “perfmon” ( press Enter )
4. On left side, expand “Data Collector Sets”
5. In “Startup Event Trace Session”, select “ReadyBoost” on the right
6. Right click, select “Properties”
7. In “Stop Condition”, set “Maximum Size” from 20MB to 128MB

well,,, i did that, but am afraid to reboot in case it happens again.

i don't know if i did the right thing [ should i change it back? ], or if it's indicative of something more serious (???)

Wouldn't worry about it according to Microsoft:

Probably a bad shut down. I wouldn't worry about it unless it happens again. If it does, there's probaly something else that's causing a bad shutdown and/or corrupting ReadyBoot.

oh boy,, I'm feeing a bit of relief now, ~ thank you, FP, ~ I'm still going to wait a bit until I try a reboot.

meanwhile, ~ should I change back the "maximum size" to 20MB, or leave it where I have it now [ 128 MB ]. ??

I'd leave it on the default I guess, but it probably doesn't matter.

well, I am glad it probably doesn't matter right now :) , because it's still @ 128MB because I shut down yesterday before I saw this reply. I think I will leave it for now. { it powered on without any woes today; ~ hope it stays that way,, }.
thank you, again :)
