If you're Jeremy Clarkson or anyone involved with one of the Cannonball Run movies, driving a car into a swimming pool is hilarious. If you're not, it really isn't.

Anyone looking to go for a swim at a certain Harris County, Texas, community pool was--to say the least--inconvenienced when a brand-new 2014 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 was driven into it. This moment of schadenfreude is brought to you by txGarage.

The driver reportedly lost control, crashed through a fence, and plunged straight into the pool. According to txGarage's Chris Rucker--who said he'd seen him earlier that day at a Houston Cars and Coffee event that morning--he looked to be no more than 17 or 18 years old.

Police told Click2Houston that the driver could be charged with speeding. He may also be responsible for repairs to the fence and pool, not to mention his own ego.

The ZL1 will likely need some TLC as well. Watching water gush from its open door, it's apparent that there's a long and expensive road ahead before the car has any chance of running again.

With a 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 producing 580 horsepower, a ZL1 is admittedly not the best car for a new driver. It's unfortunate this driver had to find that out the hard way.

I've met a few over the years. When I was in HS, you could buy late '60s muscle cars cheap, like a 68 GTO in mint condition for $400.
Some wealthier kids had new Pontiac TAs that their parents bought them when they were 16.

when I was like 16 . I found out I was starting hang with the wrong group.
way out of my league . one kid who folks owned a carpet store for his 16 th birthday . daddy went out and got him a brand new Mercedes. now keep in mind my folks never even dreamed they own or did a brand new car. hell the house we owned /bank owned at the time was value at 1/2 what that kids new car cost. I seen this and really open up my eye's and told me I was in the wrong league . I was the people they hire to do they yard work or wash that car . they never treated me any less but still I just know I was not going to last in this group long and faded away .

my daughters first car was a ford Taurus that lasted though high school and then we sold it to are brother inlaw . 2nd car she got was are 73 ford conversion van when she went to collage. it worked well as there safety vehicle also keep them close to the collage as it was bad on gas . then she got a olds aurora .she had know idea what the car could do .I did but she didn't and she still a very slow driver with her car .she could drive a Kia with a 2 cylinder in it be fast for her she like the little old lady driver today .

When my son turned 16, I gave him my old 79 Regal with a Pontiac 301 (4.9L) and that car was slow so I knew he couldn't get into too much trouble with it. The plan worked as he never got tickets or was involved in accidents and to date (he's almost 30 now), still has good record.
Had he been driving a fast car at 16, I doubt he would have been so lucky.

When I turned 18 in 1978 my parents gave me their old 68 chevy station wagon. Just as well - wasn't long afterwards that I had my first accident in that tank. I drove that beast until I bought a new Ford van out of my own pocket in 1980. Other than asking Dad to counter sign the loan, I paid it off myself, and drove it until I bought a really nice new 89 Olds 2 door Cutlass Supreme. Loved that car.

I never had kids, but it's just stupid to give a teenager a sports car for his/her first vehicle - much less a new one.
